Nice Debut Gysberts article in The Age..

Good read. Well said, bring on Carlton!

I would expect a rising star nomination on that performance.

If none forecoming a well done from me!!!

Nice article btw.

Yes, an excellent assessment of a wonderful debut! Once again, a big tick to our recruiters. They certainly seem to have done very well over the last couple of years.

Also have to chuckle at the obvious sense of irony with whoever it is withn the MFC who decides what numbers each new kid will wear. We got Grimes for Johnstone, and Jack now runs around in Travis' old #16. We got Gysberts for McLean, and now he is running around in Brock's old #5. Love it!!

And, yes, I reckon Gysberts has to be in real contention for this week's Rising Star nomination...

Go Dees!!

Rising Star for me so far this round.

I remember listening to the radio on draft night. Pick 11 was called out and I did a double take towards the radio.

What?????

Looks like the dees knew exactly what they were after. And he is certainly now a player with boundless potential at this level. I wonder just how far he will develop.

That was a refreshingly well-written article.

Agree. Well balanced and objective article. Bring on Carlton alright! Is there a chance we will get 50,000+ at the G next Saturday? .... and isn't it great that our team selection meetings are getting more difficult by the week?

What?????

Not as shocked as me. I nearly fainted when I heard from our Footy Manager moments before the draft that we wouldn't take Talia or a tall forward as pick 11. Must say I am pretty happy with JG with what I have seen so far at Casey and yesterday for the Dees.

Lol at people who talk like they actually know something about recruiting draft talent and bagging our recruiters for picking up Gysberts instead of Tahlia or Black at pick 11.

When will people realise that the recruiters actually know a thing or two.

Tahlia and Black are non-Key position very tall flankers, who do not add something essential too our future structure going forward.

Gysberts is a 188cm, inside link-man, who can get contested possessions clean out of the middle and feed them to our runners going past. with clean hand passing and being a ball magnet, he will add something really great to our midfield.

Good article and very impressive debut, i like many had no idea who this kid was when his name was called out with pick 11, yet the FD new exactly who he was and he was exactly who they wanted. be great too see him along with scully, trengove and watts next week and beyond. Another BIG tick to the recruiters great work.

There is no way he'll get the rising star nomination this week. It's not intended to be a "best young player of the week" award, so it's pretty rare to have a first gamer get the nomination.

I don't think it's that clear-cut Nasher. For starters, there's gotta be another eligible youngster out there who plays a better game.

Mind you, I've already thought of one: Tom Rockliff from Brisbane.

Ricky Petterd's debut in 2007 was the most impressive I'd seen by a Demon until yesterday...

And to think it was against the reigning premiers in a game we lost by 9 goals. Kid looks a gem.

martin was pretty solid v Adelaide (and they won) plus he's been pretty solid all year. i think he might get it.

Yes, fabulous debut. I'm just SOOOO looking forward to seeing him going head to head with one B. McLean next week!

And the Gys will even be running around in Brock's old number 5, just to really rub it in! Love it!!

Go Dees!

Real heart-warming article for any Demon fan there from Dan Silkstone (great name too).

Not a bad first up game, to have Bartell moved onto you in the last Q in order to quieten you down!!

Saurdays Geelong game will be a great learning tool for Jordan. I was 50 50 on leaving Scully & Trengove out for that game, but after reading that article i am all cool.

Lets get all 3 in the middle for the next 2 games and start to view the Future.

Big game from Jack Watts this week (I hope!!)

Lets get all 3 in the middle for the next 2 games and start to view the Future.

Bring it on.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
