Sylv was flying through the pre-season until he had his jaw broken then it was a week by week case until he had full confidence in the jaw.

Tell me you think it would be easy after a broken jaw and missing a substantial chunk of match fitness

Sylvia is a quality player who has had a couple of down weeks but he is no passenger

Maybe a thought might be to watch him a little closer this week and see how hard he really works around the ground especially with his 1 percenters instead of taking pot shots at him

I watched him very closely last saturday for your information sir.

And until he start turning on some form against Top Teams my opinion will not change.

Colin Sylvia has the ability to be a Top 10 AFL Player-But he does not have the application for it.

Like i said he should have a long heart to heart with our esteemed President who knows a lot about Hard work.

Last Saturday was the Perfect day for Colin Sylvia to really show us and his team mates all his skills. Wet Coke are not that god FFS) but alas no.

You may think he works hard enough. But i want to see Colin kick 5-7 Goals during September encounters. Raise the Bar my friend.

Sylvia is most likely struggling for one of two reasons:

1. He isn't fully fit, or is sore, or is lacking confidence in the jaw

2. He is having some attitude/application issues

Both of these are a worry and both of these issues IMO require a week off or a week with Casey.

He came back after his injury and played awesome. Kicking goals, making an option up forward taking marks tackling putting in. He has done bugger all since then.

Yep that's right, he was playing well earlier. But since just around the time he appeared on telly, his game coincidentally fell away.

Col does have a massive EGO, that's good, 'cause that's what drives him. The trick is with people like that, they Need people around them they trust in & admire, to help keep them level headed.

Col, please settle down again.

I don't think it's that Jaded, because his bread & butter precise Kicking precision & weighting has escaped him. That, to me, suggests that he's not focused for some reason?

I hope that No one is in his Ear talking big Dollars to Cause some inner conflict. There are dollars being offered around, lets hope that's not it.

What ever it is, Col isn't focused. BUT, he's not the only one!!!

If he doesn't get dropped this week, the acid should be on him against Port.

I would say the acid is already on him, whatever that means.

And as for chances, he's earned respect. Dropping him to the VFL to kick 4 in a winning side will only cost MFC a forward, which we desperately need. He has been worked over the last few weeks, which happens to the best footballers. Now before you get on me and say I'm accepting mediocrity, I am merely being a realist. Colin isn't going to kick 4 EVERY week. There are going to be bad games. One of his last three can be put down to playing on a far better player.

Also, I've heard rumblings about hamstrings, which would explain the speed/kicking issues. I haven't seen a stark lack of endeavour from him to be honest. If he has dropped off, it'd be only slightly.

If its purely atititude, drop him to the magoos.. send him ( and others ) a BIG message.. mediocrity , and its acceptance is not given at Melbourne ( any more)

Infantile fandom there. Colin should be put under pressure. And I reckon he's probably putting himself under some pressure, especially since he was in the 2 worst players on the ground, which is something he's not used to. Give him a chance to work it out. No player is perfect.

well then he should not have played. That's why i put the club on notice. We cannot accept that performance on saturday. It undoes a lot of good work.

The Crowd was ready for a big one. We wanted to get the boys home, but never got out of first gear!!!!

Yeah, been worried about Sylvia ever since I snuck him into the dream team. I thought he would be good for the occassional massive game with a few goals for icing, while delivering regular solid standard games.

Hasn't done either for a few weeks and, yeah, it's a concern.

That's dead right, the ball is still well and truly in Col's court, the season is not halfway yet.

Watching the replay, I think he was down on his own form, but not so bad that he should be dropped.

Wait until next week, or the week after before a decision is made. One bad game you could excuse. Two bad games you look closer (Morrison beat him, understandably). Thre bad games you put the acid on him and you see if he has the gumption to make a change. The 4th and 5th bad games tell you more.

Nipping a player's bad form in the bud worked well for Carlton with Waite and Thornton. Sylvia's been crap for 3 weeks now.

You can't play above your own ability, but you can sure as hell play below it. We saw against Richmond that he is more than capable of being an A-grade HFF/midfielder, but at the moment he is lacking confidence, fitness or groundedness (i.e. he rates himself well above where is is in reality; can't think of a better word). Whatever it is, going back to Casey will help him fix it. And at the same time it sends him and the other senior players a message.

Hang onto him 'Little Goffy', He'll be back. He's a proud player who wants to show something for his career.

I'm sure he's just learning about himself & what works for him & what doesn't. He not stupid, just learning now.
