Lost Highway 31 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Anyone remember whom Melbourne gave up to Brisbane when it started up? A bloke called Fidge. Don't remember if it was Ted or John, but I think the latter. He was just an honest trier, like Miller. It'll be a perfect role for him if they want him, being an honest trier. Mind you, they may not; I think the drafting charity for the GC far exceeds that given to Brisbane when it started. OTOH, perhaps a tall, hard key position type won't be easy to come by. But if he plays for the Dees again there would have to be a mass hospitalisation of our other players.
BAMF 4,485 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Might they not look at Rivers? Hmmmmm. Well they did a few years ago didn't they? I doubt they offered us anything worthwhile.

Unfortunately his attitude did maximise those talents. At times wayward he was on the way down when he left MFC and aside from a couple of cameos at Carrara faded to nothing. His brother Ted was a battler at best. Miller is a completely different player to John Fidge. He will be out of contract at year end and will be off our list. GC will be welcome to him. I am not sure if they will be interested in him. Oh thats right Miller is from Queensland. They will definitely take him them for family repatriation reasons. Well they did a few years ago didn't they? I doubt they offered us anything worthwhile. Did they? I would not have thought a player coming back from 2 years of OP would be top of their shopping list.

Is very dirty with the dees, had a big falling out with barassi. Hes a brick S%$thouse.
Adzman 2,154 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 The dees are having a good hard look at their list. They have a good 5/6 players to cut from this current team. To make sure everyone gets a go, everyone is up for selection. Miller not playing is obvious. He is out of favor, and perhaps his time is done here. Say what you like about Miller, the truth is he can play at this level and will be on an AFL list next season. Perhaps not the GC17s list, but maybe even the Swans who seem to go against the grain by giving second life to senior players.

What have they been doing the past 2 to 3 years? Miller getting only a one year contract late last year sends a signal. There are unlikely to cut 5 to 6 players either.

Clearly Miller would not be a high priority for GC as you say Rhino, but that does not mean they would not take him. The real issue is, would he be a better player than the boys they already have. I think having seen a bit of them recently, that he would be at this point in time. He is about 26 with a developed body and plenty of AFL experience together with recognised group leadership qualities on and off the field. They can't only get the stars, interestingly they don't appear to have any at the moment, they will also need a few workmen and he fits that category. They may or or may not be interested in him, but clearly from what I have seen he would walk into CHF in their team at the moment even with Charlie Dixon there. Don't forget he is kicking goals and playing well for Casey and Casey is a better side than the GC at the moment. They will need some experienced players in their first few years until their youngsters have time to develop.
Harrisonrules 273 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Unfortunately Brad is a player who had limited, in fact one talent - a lead up forward who could take a chest mark. It worked OK when we had Robbo and Neita because he could take a mark on the wing turn and kick to the leading Neita or over the back to the high flying Robbo. When they went or were out through injury his one dimensional skill was exposed. If your hands are no good they are usually no good below the knees and above the head. At best he was about a 20% chance of a one grab in these areas. The only competative mark I ever recall him taking over his head was the one he took against the Lions in the goal square to put us in front of them (last year or was it the year before) and we all know that one stuck because it was brad green holding it in his hands. He was a slow thinker. Marked on the wing and couldn't work out who to kick it to. Passing was as bad as his shooting for goal, am I being too generous to suggest he was about a 40% accuracy kick. Good on you Brad you did your bit when it could help, but the game and the time have past you by.
Bring-Back-Powell 15,555 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Why not bring him back after todays goal orgy?
Demon Disciple 12,537 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Why not bring him back after todays goal orgy? Yep, he would've done better than half of our players on the field today. At least he tries. If i didn't know any better, i would've thought we were tanking.
praha 11,267 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I was actually thinking on the way home that he would have been a handy inclusion today. I think one of the areas that let us down was the entry from the half-forward line. Miller typically plays along the flanks and wings and that's where he gets a lot of his possessions. Could have potentially been a 2-3 goal better side today if he was in imo.
MadAsHell 4,217 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I'd expect one of Miller, Martin or Newton will get a game next week, if he had another good game at Casey today he'd be a good chance to come in for PJ.
Dappa Dan 2,188 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think I can get behind Miller's inclusion. MOSTLY because the player who got the game ahead of him, acquitted himself well. Had he come in for Watts, I'm not sure he'd have played any better.
titan_uranus 25,255 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I've been going on for a while now about rewarding players who are playing consistently well for Casey. Miller's kicked 4, 3, and 3 in his last three games. He's doing what's being asked of him. It wouldn't really be the best move for the future, but if Martin's not fit (which seems the case), then we have to bring someone in for Johnson, and at least Miller's trying at Casey.

dee-luded 2,959 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Personally, I see Colin as a midfielder, who can pinch hit forward. He's generally tough over the ball, beautiful kick, good decision maker etc. Rest him up forward, but don't regularly start him forward, IMO. He certainly has an ability to play forward for an entire game, but with the forward depth that we've arguably built (none of them can get out on the park together though), he's a midfielder for mine. When Tapscott comes on and Morton, there will be a real competition for spots. We're starting to see it already. Yeah I agree Adam, but they're probably trying to do this to create midfield spot's so we can play the kids & get games into them. Scully & Trenners need to keep pushing games into themselves, so if we put all our mature players in the middle zone, we can't really play the young'uns.
dee-luded 2,959 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Agree- most likely Miller IMO. If bates injured & out, = Miller. Johnson out, = Newton. Spencer Bruce out, = Cheney. or Sylvia back & Jetta forward. If Davey is injured, = Jetta.
BAMF 4,485 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Did they? I would not have thought a player coming back from 2 years of OP would be top of their shopping list. They certainly did. After the 08 Grand final they wanted someone to help out there backline, especially with Croad looking in bad shape. Jared was injured at the time, I doubt they would have offered us anything better than their second rounder. We told them that we were not interested but put the offer to Rivers anyway. And he said No.
Range Rover 1,935 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 It's amazing how low our standards and expectations can be sometimes. A few 3 goal efforts in the twos and suddenly Miller's in white hot form? A monkey could kick 3 goals over one hundred minutes of rezzies footy. Miller is spud with no football brain ... lest we forget!!
Akum 2,660 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Something about Miller that hasn't been picked up is that he and Jack Watts combined well for Casey. Miller seems to be one player who has a good understanding of Jack's game.
Tricky 341 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 The conundrum continues. Regardless of Brad's long term relationship with the club - he should be congratulated for his efforts tonight.
old dee 24,083 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Well all you Miller haters! 5 goals was tonight a match winning contribution. I have long bemoaned the fact that winning is all that matters and with 5 goals from Brad and a win is the end of the discussion. We got the 4 points and that is all that matters. Now for next week.
wisedog 352 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 He's played forward, he's played back. He's been touted as a future captain and he's been completely written off... multiple times. He almost reminds me of an Irish project player in terms of his development and the opportunities he's been given. I suppose as a Queenslander, that's not all that far from the truth. I didn't think we'd see him in the side again, but he's taken the opportunity and kicked a career high 5 goals. A conundrum indeed. This is it though... he won't last another slump, not at Melbourne anyway. Maybe Gold Coast will see something in him. All the best Brad.

His best game for the Dees and a major part of the win and you have him gone.
