Melbourne's new facilities

I'm sure that Casey was originally mooted as an off-season training venue, and then the 1 day p/wk (fortnight?) stipulation slid in there. I find the in-season stuff odd.

It doesn't seem like it's in the team's best interests and IMO you can still build a relationship during the winter without training there every week (school visits, Club events, etc).

Is there something we can we do there that we can't do in Melbourne?

I believe the move to AAMI Park will be one of the most beneficial things the MFC have done in recent times.

Assuming that we get an equal and ample use of the premises, it will guarantee that our players are using the best facilities in the league.

There is however a greater and potential non tangible benefit.

This benefit will be our teams interaction with the other codes using this facility.

It will give our guys a chance to mix with some of the best and most elite sportsmen in the world.

It is the chance to chat with Billy Slater and Greg inglis. Muscat and Archie Thomson and some quality international rep rugby union players.

This will allow our players to see how the others train and mingle with the worlds best.

No other team in the AFL have this option and would secretly be jealous with this scenario.

It will do wonders with the new crop to see A grade players day in day out.

Not to forget Craig Bellamy, Ernie Merrick (Flag City between those two!! or the Rebels Coach-This is a real positive for the Club to have all the "Melbourne's" close by

as long as they have designated areas within that are permanent. With General areas as well.

Aren't The Reb's looking at Glenferrie as there base? Not sure they are locked into the Bubblesquare.

Gosch's Paddock will still be used by the Pies until they get their training ground built...

We will be using the newly turfed ground just beside the Bubbledome which is closer than Gosch's paddock......

Just to confuse it further...wasn't there something about a stadium/base in Docklands last year?

If it happens it'll be way down the track - it was just an idea tossed up.

I think it got some attention after Doyle mentioned the possibility.

Just another attention grabbing moment from that peanut Doyle. Will never happen, no logic to it.

That looks amazing and is basically in the shadow of our home the MCG. It will also be nice to have our own oval with goal posts year round.

Am I correct in assuming that Victory/Rebels will actually train on the ground, while storm remain at Visy and we are the only ones who will use this new oval?

does anyone know our official 'Move in' date? I had it in my mind that it was the 11th of May for some reason.

Will we be using the oval staright away? So all future training sessions will be held at the AAMI oval?

What will the oval be called? Does Melbourne get naming rights? That'd be magnificent if we did.

Does the club have any official 'housewarming' planned? I hope so!

I am really excited about us training an basing ourselves at this wonderful new facility. I am fortunate enough to live across the bridge in South Yarra and can't wait to get down to a session on my walk home from work. Hope many others have the same ideas. Hope they still train at night5. Probably not. Although i used to see Collingwood in the mornings.

Hope someone has some answers to my questions above

The training ground is already known as Gosch's Paddock.

Not sure of the exact move in date, but I'm sure the club will let us know as it gets closer.

I do recall either reading or hearing about an opening party for all the tenants.

Can't remember when. I'll do a bit of digging.

Would appreciate it mate! I know the oval is Gosch's Paddock. However I thought that name referred to the ground Collingwood train on. The oval we are on (by the looks of Schwabby's tweetpics, is the one that has recently been laid and built closer to Swan Street/Batman Ave. I may be wrong. Anyway. While the name is Gosch's paddock, the oval does not have a name. Jim Stynes Field or Oval has a nice ring to it.

Yeah I didnt really get it. What on earth are our premiership cups doing in boxes anyway?

I can only guess that they were being transported from the G. Or from the MCC. I understand they have possession of all our premiership cups. Due to the fact we were a section of the MCC when we won them. I remmeber, although it has been a very long tiime since i visited, that a few of them were displayed in the MCC/Australian Sports Museum too.

I'm pretty sure they are from years when premiership cups weren't awarded but they have since been made up.

Schwab earlier mentioned them "arriving" but were still in the boxes, so I can only assume the twitter army were hassling him for a photo.

Don't quote me on all that though.

The oval is the property of the Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust, so we don't have naming rights over it.

Our situation would be equivalent to that of Collingwood in their battle to try and have Edwin Flack Field named Bob Rose Oval.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
