i dont see why we arent fully welcome, we are supposedly realigned with the MCC and have a history with the ground that goes back longer then anyone alives great grandfather..

its not used for anything else, its the one way we could get a competitive advantage back that we fall behind the cashed up teams on development.

we should be campaigning and not give up until they see sense

They have a responsibility to keep the ground in good condition for matches. If they have teams training there it makes it harder to do that.

i dont buy that, there used to be way more ground use with reserves etc played on there, seriously they think a few training sessions a week is going to ruin the grass?

It really does boggle the mind because in simple terms, it is our ground. Were in bed with the MCC but the MCC's non commital and only up for one night stands. Its beuracracy and red tape gone mad.

Alternatively a ground is a ground is a ground. Who can be bothered with underground car passes and hallways and steps etc. I'd rather be gunning the holden straight up to Casey fields, parking it on the centre square and jumping out in my practice skins. Grass roots style. Go Dees!

Excuse my ignorance, but what is it that the MCC actually do for us besides let us be affiliated with them?

I'm aware of the occasional hand-out but isn't that $$ that we made them in a way? If the purpose of being alligned with the MCC is to ensure our future, then great, all for it.. but why can't they get us to train on our home ground to push any kind of advantage we may get?

Do they care about us or is it just obligatory commitments?

i havent heard of 1 thing since our supposed re-alignment to be honest, wasnt this our problem and the reason we split with them in the first place??, they wernt serious about us winning on gameday?... nothings changed

The reason that the MCG has such a good playing surface is that they place strong restrictions on how often it is used. If you compare it to the surface at Docklands (who would hold a hole digging contest there during the week for $50) you can see why they do it.

Despite the alignment with the MCC, I doubt that they would allow Melbourne and not the other tenants the right to train on the ground, even if it is just one session per week. It is a shame, but I would be surprised if it was to change.

If you pop past the MCG on any given day during the week you will see that the ground is in a constant state of repair. They dig up and re-turf patches of the ground frequently, top-dress the grass, spray poisons on it and besides that they have the UV light panels covering about 1/4 of the ground at all times.

The oval is worked on constantly to get it up for each weekend's games, there's nothing bloody-minded about there being no training there during the week, it's just not possible with the amount of maintenance required. Keep in mind that the stadium is so high these days that the surface gets precious little sun during winter. No different to Etihad.

Even when each team gets their one 'training run' on the surface during the year, they aren't allowed to use the centre square and often one of the 50m arcs.

We have it tough training with no goal posts, how would we go with no corridor and only one end of the ground available?!?

Thats exactly what they are.

Both the MCG and Ethihad Stadium use them.

As mentioned in the previous post, both grounds get very little natural sunlight during the winter due to the build up staduim around them. The 'Solarium's' so to say ensure that grass gets what it needs during the winter.

I would say it might be a fair compromise to let Melbourne clubs train on the G when they play an interstate team (as they get a training session on the G).

But really I'm happy with our players training at Casey, and hopefully the oval are producing at the moment next to the rectangular stadium is in tip top condition when we move.

My understanding is that they allow us to use the offices, boardroom etc at the MCG free of charge. Before the re-alignment we paid quite a hefty sum in rent for these facilities.
