Great report Chook, esp @ half past midnight!

Just a couple of things. Thomas, asked to explain what he meant by saying that Bailey would make a great assistant coach but doubting his abilities as senior coach, said that DB is widely known as a top-grade development coach but perhaps a bit too nice a bloke and too much of a thinker to really give someone a bake when required. DB replied that if that's the way he comes across outside the club, then inside it he's known for really giving it to players who don't get ti right (which is what I've heard too). He then went on to explain that he's had to be pretty ruthless in rebuilding the team, but that in doing this he works closely with Schwab (I presume this means that instead of going off half-cocked, he doesn't give people a bake unless he thinks it's the best way to deal with the situation). This is good to know.

He also mentioned a few times about a "second tier" of leadership, players just outside the current leadership group, and that these are the players he thinks really stepped up on Saturday and he's looking for continued improvement from these guys from now on. Haven't really heard about this before. He didn't mention names, but we can think about ho he might be referring to.

And about Jack Watts, he mentioned Jack's eagerness to get on to the park, and frustration that he's not been able to, "all he wants to do is play". Says he talks with Jack quite often, and that Jack has the maturity to deal with it, and he's not influenced by what those outside the club say about him.

notice when they were talkin about our young kids DB butts in and mentioned Mcenzie? shows how much he really does rate him

Yeah I noticed that aswell.

I think the last two weeks have taken about 10 years off his life, he looked very old on footy classified.

Which in my mind isn't such a bad thing. Still recall an interview with Mark Thompson in, I think, 2006 when everyone was calling for his blood. He looked like a bloke who hadn't slept for a week. Remember him saying something like he would stick to his plan regardless and was working with the players, and to wait for the results.

I liked it all. He believes what he's saying, what we're trying to do, there's no hesitation (apart from the Watts question) he has a plan and it's what we'll stick to. High quality kids growing and playing together.

Interestingly on One Week at a Time they asked Nick Reiwoldt about us and compared us to the saints with their batch of top draft picks, Nick agreed that it is the way to go and has no doubt we're on the way to being a good team.

With Trengove, Scully, Grimes, McKenzie and Jurrah to work with, plus our defence, only a complete donkey will fail with this list.

Well, it's not necessarily as simple as that, but I'd add Gyberts, Tapscott, Blease and potentially even Fitzpatrick. We've certainly given ourselves a very good chance, providing we do all the right things.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
