This kid will be the lynchpin of our midfield for many years and the one that will give the opposition most headaches. Awareness, quick thinking, courage, great hands, exceptional speed, confidence, willingness to work and supreme fitness. If the MFC were able to tailor a player exactly to what it side needs Scully would be it.

I saw enough on Saturday and in the pre-season to form the opinion that this kid be the best on-baller at the MFC in my lfetime.

I don't normally make these statements, this kid will be a champion.

One thing pretty much won me over life on Saturday. Scully backed into the hole with a rather large unit called Roughead storming towards him.

I'd soil myself just thinking about it, he goes out and does it in game 1.

Size doesn't matter Mr Newman.

Bennell should take note.

Agreed. The club hasn't had a superstar since Lyon at his peak.

Scully will definitely become one.

This is hardly ground breaking news, but I gues it needs to be said anyway.

He's already shown enough to demonstrate that by the end of the year he and Trengove will be our two best midfielders. Pretty sad actually

I think J Trengove might have something to say about this. That said, Trengove and Scully are different types of midfielders. Potentially a pointless comparison. Scully backing into the pack is a fantastic example of his courage and endeavour, but Trengove's game was even more promising IMO. I love them both and I hoep they both have extremely long MFC careers. If they don't, we're in a bit of trouble.

You could be sad or you could try excited?

I know that is a little rosy, but these kids are our future and we should be pretty buoyant about that B) !!!

Seeing young Tom back fearlessly into the leading Roughead, and Trengove breaking lines in his first game,

should give cause for excitement!

To take it a step further I think he and Kreuzer will be the best no. 1's of the modern era.

Trengove will be a creative player in his own right and a ball magnet, silky and smart and strong overhead. Scully will be a player who will win stoppages, get first hands, create space with his acceleration or by the smart use of his hands. I think in time (and I mean soon) Tom Scully will be the one who generates most of our attacks, much like Judd. He will in essence be a player to build a midfield around.

"Champion" is an overused word in the AFL, especially by commentators and the media. I actually had a robust discussions at work as to whether Riewoldt is a champion or not? It was a split decision, 4-4. Just really depends on your description of a champion.

We have not had many champion players of late, Neitz, Lyon ?????

I hope and pray that the 2 of them will become champions, along with some other youngsters on our list, because 2 wont make us a great team.

That being said, it obvious they both have what it takes, we just need more players around them to make it possible.

Extremely excited about the future but sad about our current midfield.

I'm confident that Trengove, Scully and Grimes will form the nucleus of a great midfield which will be supported by Blease, Morton, Gysberts, Tapscott and McKenzie.

I'd add Sylvia in there too.

Interesting point you bring up.

Going on Cameron Schwab's Matrix i would have Nieta as a cat 5

Lyon borderline cat 5-6

Our stock of absolute champions has been sadly bare for a long time, which is the reason i hope the club is now using this Matrix to get a better idea on where we are.

All we need now is for Jack Watts to live up to all the hype.

I like most on demonland went to the game on Saturday, although we played so very poorly, when I was driving home I thought back to the games of both Scully and Trengove and couldn’t wipe the smile off my face! Spot on with the call on Scully dandeeman!

Just can't wait for the day I hear "Scully fires out a handball to the running player in Trengove . . . . Pumps it long inside 50 . . . Watts is one out here . . . . Just to strong simply too strong the young man and he'll line up for his 4th to extend the lead to 36 points . . . . There in trouble here the Pies (Imagine Dennis Cometti here)

Frawley to Grimes out of the back line first :)

After the ball spills free from a McKenzie tackle on Swan, as he rides him into the turf...

Lets hope he can replicate the 11 tackles from last week.. and even another goal or three.

Do you know him 'dandeeman', as he played out at Stingray?

He's a good kid.

We need some top flight mids for our future, & young Viney hopefully in the future.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
