Correct. Bate will play first choice CHF for most of this year

Whilst I'm not convinced that Bate is a CHF I suspect you're right. Miller was retained on a one year deal to provide a big body in the forward line, so, subject to form, he'll get his opportunities.

From my limited viewing of training's match simulation Miller was playing deeper in the forward line. It won't surprise me to see Miller and Jurrah both lining up close to the goal square.

Training is on tomorrow at Casey Field from 8AM, according to the website. If anyone is going, can they check if Lynden Dunn is based on the forward line during the matchplay. I recall he was operating as a forward last week. At this stage he may be be the preferred key forward option to Bate (more of a flanker), Martin (playing on backline) and Watts (still developing).

oh dear... that thought always worries me. Dunn in the forward line. SHould be perfect for it... but then again, so should Newton.

So club training on the 22nd was productive and the players are coming along nicely for the season then. OK then

If someone could let us know how the training goes this morning that would be great.

P.s Pettard and Miller Rock lol

As you were there last Friday, did Dunn train as a forward?

I recall seeing Dunn take a couple of marks up forward last week during the matchplay. Our two key forward positions are still undecided, so they may rotate various players through these spots. For example, while Jurrah is still developing, he may play part of a game in the square, then move out to a flank. Be interesting to see what they do this morning.

Overheard a couple of players saying Green would play full forward this year.

Interesting. He's 184cms and 83 kgs so he could play the fast leading forward type, while the resting ruckman stays in the goal square. Brad Johnson is only 182cms and has a key forward role at the dogs.

Bailey has hinted he wants the resting rucks to stay on the field. This can leave 4 interchange spots free for rotations.

If they want a smaller fast leading type at FF, then Jurrah would be an excellent alternative. He could relieve Green as part of rotations on the forward line, and also spend some time on the flanks.

St Kilda, Brisbane Lions and Geelong are good examples of clubs that have have set players in key forward positions. I don't see the Dees having having a conventional forward line structure for at least the next 2 seasons.

Great position for Green as he gets older. He'll play the position well. Strong lead and mark and a beautiful kick.

As for Miller. As the team improves so to will Miller. He's never short of commitment and attacks the ball well. Personally I think he'll be a valuable asset to the team this year.

I would expect Green to kick 30-40 goals if he played predominantly at full forward this year. Certainly not the worst idea ever.

I actually agree with him, and I think his post was mostly aimed at your idiotic ramblings.

An interesting hypothetical... would Mooney outperform Miller if he played for Melbourne?

Would Miller be a better player if he played for Geelong?

It seems like these days you don't need more than one star forward in your team, as long as the rest of your forwardline is of good to average quality. Miller doesn't need to be a star to play a vital role in the side, if Watts and Jurrah develop as we expect them to.

Very good point you raise- however we have the potential of a very potent forward line, which Miller can contribute to. To answer your question I would prefer Mooney any day. Also Mooney is a far better player as an individual either front or back and plays well in most important games.

Oh i see..

Dont offer anything towards the actual arguement, just sound like a self-righteous [censored], as you do nearly every post.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
