Burgan had Vardy sliding to a couple of picks before Gawn, I would be happy if we took either as I'm really warming to Vardy - only problem is he'll probably take a bit longer to develop to AFL ruckman size...

We really only have Jamar as fair dinkum ruck stock ..ready to go. Spencer is still a work in progress. Martin may morph. Meesen seems on borrowed time.

You want one more ..no ??

MFC selections as by burgan:

Tom Scully

Jack Trengove

Daniel Talia

Max Gawn

Troy Taylor

Liam Patrick

PSD Joel Macdonald

pretty fair draft result for the MFC according to Burgan

Here's the link to the rest of the draft.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...51/default.aspx

I would have thought this was a best case scenario ... question is will all of Talia, Taylor & Patrick last to our picks.

Gawn at 18 is a very interesting "needs" based pick which would fly in the face of best available theories. Not that I'm complaining but would have thought he might be available at 34.

However, one observation about Burgurn's Phantom draft if the plethora of talls available at 34 ... very interesting.

18 - Gawn

Hmm. He better be worth it for such a hich pick. Would rather take a ruckman at 34 and get more of a sure thing at 18 such as Luke Ball.

Oh well it's only a mock draft.

Talia at 11 would be a nice get.

Also looking at the highlights of Gawn he looks good, doesnt look like an awkward ruckman, and takes some good mark and uses his height well.

Yes. I mean No... I mean... I'm confused.

Basically, we need another ruckman. Which does fly in the face of the 'best available theory' - but so does alot of this, I think taking a 'tall' with pick 11 comes under this category. There may be a better mid out there at 11, (plenty of names thrown around) but we will be drafting with a need for a forward. You make a good point, our ruck stocks need bolstering.

I may have confused myself even more there.

Burgan did mention that we may consider drafting Brock McCauley who is a mature ruckman at 50 who has come recommended to the MFC directly from Jeff White, so wouldn't surprise me if we used picks 11 and 18 more on KPP's, with either 34 or 50 used on a ruckman.

Quite amazed the Alex Carey wasnt picked up.

Or did i miss him?

He didnt put him in which is a joke.

Carey was one of the most consistent performers at the championships and will surely find a club on Thursday.

Interesting that at 18, he's still got Tapscott, Stevens, Bastinac & Gysberts left as possible mids. I'd be surprised if we pick up 2 talls with 11 & 18, as I think we still need to stock up on another very good mid or two, but Talia & Gawn would both be good gets.

I really rate Talia, he's got all the elements for an A+ tall IMO, though if Burgo's top 10 is correct, I'd be really torn between him & Lewis Jetta at 11.

Me too. If both were available at 11 I don't know which one I'd prefer.

As rpfc says, though, we shouldn't take Talia just because he's a KPF. If the FD think Jetta's better (hahaha...) then we take him.

I think we'll end up with Talia, if not Black. We need another tall, and those two (plus Butcher) are the stand outs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Port take Jetta if he's available at 8 or 9. It might let Butcher slip through to 11.

Essendon would take Butcher at 10.

IMHO ... Essendon will take Melksham.

IMHO Sydney have the swing pick that could heavily shape the next 5-6 picks

The line that interests me is ... "will help cover the loss of retired Swans games record holder Michael O'Loughlin." ... maybe a somewhat romantic opinion.

IMHO they have a greater need to cover the loss of trading Barry Hall.

However, this all said and done I could be easily wrong.

Absolutely ....

Had Hall stayed I would not be saying this ... look I could be way off track.

Plus I just have the feeling Longmire will see him as a pet project & 10-15 year proposition.

Sydney's got a jet in Jessie White in their hands already. Lewis Johnston was another KPP tall they took last year and have all but got Bradshaw.

Think they may look for a mid (melksham) to take over Kirk or they could go with a line breaking mid(rohan).

Can't see Butcher going past Port. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Port went all tall and got Butcher, Talia and Vardy.

Talia and Black are fine by me. Another mid at 18 in Bastinac or a Koby would be nice. Troy Taylor looks like magic. Pick 50, tallest tree who plays SF in basketball.

Burgan's 2008 Phantom Draft: http://www.afl.com.au/News/AFLBlogs/BlogAr...px?newsId=70169

Got quite a lot of them right in the end (but amended his draft when the word came through that Hill was going at 3)

Edit: And his 2007 Phantom Draft: http://www.afl.com.au/season2007/news/naba...px?newsid=53419

Burgan's is a hack, is success rate is around 22% for 2007 & 17% for 2008... Smells like a HACK to me.

I think they'll go for Rohan.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
