Ball for Melbourne in the PSD?

Ross Lyon coming out

2:06 Luke Ball deal didn't get done

2:06 So it's going to be interesting to hear what he says

2:06 Lyon said he was rapt to get Lovett and Peake...

2:06 Avoided the Ball question

2:06 Said there was some stumbling blocks in between Ball getting to Collingwood

2:07 Disappointed Ball didn't get there. Said they just couldn't get a deal done with the PIes

2:07 Said Ball came into Etihad Stadium today to have a chat with the Saints about the week

2:07 Lyon now says the ball is in Ball's court!

2:07 He said that they've got a three year deal on the table for him

2:08 Wait.... He backtracked on that

2:08 Now he says the three year deal is off the table

2:08 But the club will more than likely welcome Ball back to the club if he decides not to take his chances in pre season draft

2:08 So that's Ross Lyon done

Don't know why you guys are so keen on him. His body & groins are in worse shape than McClean's ankles.

Likewise.

We wont be offering anything for him.

Picks 25 and 62...what were the Pies thinking?

Agree Pants. I reckon he will take a shortened deal with the Saints.

The lure of a premiership is a strong one, but if he can't see himself getting a game there, and can get more money elsewhere, why would he stay?

It's very difficult for a player to publicly say they want out, then backtrack when deals fall over.

He may still do it, but it seems unlikely, especially when St Kilda is choking on their own salary cap.

Will Ball resign with the Saints or go in the psd?

Luke Ball, number 2 pick in the 2001 national draft. Come on Dees, get him to the club.

1997 - Melbourne finish last, St. Kilda make a grand final. Jamie Shanahan comes to us in the PSD.

2009 - Melbourne finish last, St. Kilda make a grand final. Luke Ball comes to us in the PSD.

1998 - Melbourne make finals, St. Kilda coach is sacked

2010 - ?

Would he get to Collingwood at 30 in the ND with $400K x 3 on his head?

I think it's possible.

I am not clear on how it works. Can he nominate for the ND or just the PSD? If he can nominate for both, what's the difference?

I have heard Ball knocked back a 3 year deal mid year @ $400 K per season. Luke Ball was an elite player in 05/06, but not anymore. Would much rather pick a youngster at #30 (we got Beams with Pick #29) than Ball.

Ryan O'Keefe?

I said difficult, not impossible.

The story with O'Keefe is different. At Sydney he still gets game time and they would have been able to match most financial offers.

If we can afford to pay the price Ball places on himself, we're a very good chance. Paul Connors is his manager, is he not? That could be a good thing for us!

Someone Geoff Walshe from Collingwood on SEN right now:

'Hamstrung' in regards to picks. Simply couldn't find a deal that satisfied the Saints. Will possibly consider drafting in the ND, but really doesn't want to comment on that. Admits that there are 2 drafts to come, could well still end up at Collingwood.

Basically Ross Lyon has stood in the way of Luke ball getting his wish and moving to Collingwood

He won’t stay now!!! the offer is gone too to make it worse

Demons will convince him and we will get him for free in the PSD

He is better than Brock too so no loss there meaning we effectively take pick 11 for free!!!

Leoncelli and Mcdonald Having Old Xaverian blood lines will get him over the line....

would be a great result

He can nominate for either with contract terms and the firts club willing to mmet the contract and spend the pick get him.

In the PSD that's us, in the ND the club has to be prepared to spend the pick, that wouldn't be us because we would need to to use 18 to trump Collingwood's 30. I doubt he'd go earlier than 18 unless Port was in the market at 16 so Ball needs to look at the clubs with picks 19 to 29 and see whether he'd get thru to 30.

I only want him if he really wants to play for the MFC no point trying to convince him we don't need that type of player round the young blokes at the club he has good leaderships skills and would be great to have but his heart must be in it or don't bother

Unless he does what Old says in the ND and he does not want to play with MFC.

Otherwise he can hang the boots up as an alternative?

The upside is that he may be able to play in flag where the Club's window is now and his body lasts.

If that's the case, I would only want him for free in the PSD!

He's only 25 (younger than Davey who just got a 4 year deal)!

I know his body is not in great shape, but he may still be around when we're challenging for a flag, and if he brings leadership and experience, why not?

We lost his exact type in McLean, whether by choice or not is unclear, but if we got pick 11 for McLean and can get Ball for nothing as a short to medium term replacement, it'll be a huge win.

the risk would be they make a grand final and he does not make the team. I really cant see him headed back to the saints. Melbourne must be a better than 50% chance now. I for one would be very happy to see him in the red and blue

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
