The Australian today has reported that Davey was allegedly offered $2.5M by Freo over 4 years and turned it down for up to $800k less over 4 years to stay with the Dees.

Someone with technical skill can link the article.

"IF" true that is sensational. It also says something about players and the MFC.

Couldn't agree more.

Also says something about Fremantle.

There was something in the article that mentioned a job he'd be doing representing Indigenous youth, that was part of what they offered, but fell outside the cap.

Does this remind anyone of a certain other indigenous player we lost to Freo some years ago at the height of his powers?

That's a brilliant outcome for the Dee's !!!

Now, this is going to bite freo fair and square on the arse hopefully.

I'm not usually one to spread rumblings from high places  but, pick 2 + a sweetener were possibly going to freo for big Sandilands.....

With Jamar + sweetener to Port for either Salopek or a 1st rounder.

Now after their foxing on Davey I hope we return the favour and pick up Sandilands in the PSD. Keep pick 2 and whatever comes our way for the big Russian. BTW, I really rate the Russian.

That means we get Picks 1,2,11, Ports 1st rounder or Salopek, 18,34 and Big Sandilands in the PSD.

I may be dreaming but "Payback's a [censored]".

C'mon CC you know you can help manufacture this.... ;)

He just would hate to wear purple each week!

Davey is a favourite son at the MFC, and to see him stay for less speaks volume of his character.

We have a few on here who need to say a little somethin-somethin in AD's direction, but over on Ology - Stakka needs to kiss him on the dick.

"The offer, predicated not on a trade with the Demons but him walking through to the Dockers via the pre-season draft, was worth $625,000 a season.

It is understood that the package involved a third-party arrangement with a major mining and resources company which would have paid a portion of Davey's salary to be involved with one of its indigenous health programs.

The amount, believed to be a six-figure sum, was to sit outside of Fremantle's player payments and therefore be exempt from salary cap constraints. "

Scumbags and cheats.

Richmond would of got him cheaply in the PSD before Freo had the chance. As the AFL playing wage is not the issue and Richmond would of said thank you..

Yeah that doesn't make much sense to me. His wage would be partially paid by a third party to avoid the salary cap. Making him easy for us to redraft or Richmond to swoop before Freo in the PSD.

I'm sure Richond would love to have him too.

Knocking back that money does show what a close group of 'brothers' we have at the club and a lot must be said of Davey's character.

We have a few on here who need to say a little somethin-somethin in AD's direction,..........

Assuming the figures in the article are accurate (a big IF), you might include me as one of those. But

  1. $2.1M for 4 years is just stupid (i've taken off the 6 figure 3rd party payment)
  2. 4 yrs is stupid - Davey has had 1 breakout year

I also consider $1.7-1.8M for 4 years for Davey as rediculous.

Despite what Schwab says, there are plenty of reports that the dons also made a big offer.

Of course, Davey used these offers to increase the $s and the length of contract we had to offer him. He sure picked the right year to have a good one.

At the end of this trading period - in say a year's time, there are going to be a few clubs very regretfull over deals they have done. Talk about a sellers market.

Having said all that, I AM pleased Davey is still at the MFC

I believe they are trying to do the same thing with lovett so Essendon don't get anything

If this is true, I owe Davey an apology for thinking he was money grubbing and what appeared to be holding the club ransom to increase his worth.

Ditto. It's nice to be wrong on these things.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
