Probley loves the pingers? If the bombers don't want him then either do we. I would rather SB.

Why not try and get both ... ;)

Davey, Jurah, Jetta, Bennell, Wona ... then add Burgoyne & Lovett ... perfect to play on the nice wide open spaces at the MCG.

Dont know if we could play them all in the one side ... but hey what a beautiful luxury to have.

Lovett played 21 games for the Bombers ... cant believe he is not in there best 22!!!

Drop off late in year ... IMHO has seen the writing on the wall.

Definitely worth talking toooooo ... definitely. However, again depends on the "price".

Lovett can be very hot and cold. Id rather his presence on the market precipitate the availability of another player rather than taking him.

He is the same sort of player as SB and if he is as good as people are saying we don't need Lovett as well IMO. He has improved steadily each year but for every player we bring in for example Lovett and SB thats 2 more of our younger players who will miss out, who do you take out for these two?

IMHO its all about outside pace & hence pressure for 100 minutes ... I loved Daveys role last year but you cant expect him to do it for 100 minutes 22 games in the year.

SB & Davey rotate around the ball ... running behind the marker getting that quick handle ball & hitting targets. Both more than capable of the role.

Leaving Moloney, McLean, Bruce, Sylvia plus maybe a Jones & MacDonald to do the inside heavy work.

Then you move to our forward line that contains a combination of Jurah, Wona, Lovett & not to forget Watts .. opposition back-lines would struggle to get a seconds peace.

Our all around the ground pace could simply run teams of their legs especially at the MCG.

IMHO its all about the modern game of rotations

Don't want him. More trouble than he's worth and he's too old.

Maybe if he was of Burgoyne's calibre... but he's not, so its a moot point.

So would Lovett take Petterd's spot in the team? Lets not forget about Scully and Trengove....I just don't think Lovett is worth taking a youngsters spot. IMO he won't be coming to Melbourne anyway.

Lovett... <...> Burgoyne.... plus details... becomes a workable swap for Essendond and Port. all of a sudden looks quite likely.

fine by me...rather not have either

The problem is that Lovett is a fruit cake. He slides atomatically because of his attitude. To get the sack from Essendon when he had a pretty good year tells me that he will be a handful to deal with. If anyone will slip through to the PSD I'm betting it will be Lovett his bad reputation makes it very risky for a club to take a punt on him.

Lovett is easily in Essendon best 22.

The reason he is being traded has very little to do with his on field performances.

Reckon he'll go to Port (with pick 10) for Burgoyne.

Agree, i'd be surprised if MFC get Lovett or Burgoyne.

Lovett and #26 for Burgoyne

I really cant see any team giving up a top 10 pick this year. Port to some degree have to take whats on offer. Lovett and 26 isnt that shabby.

Think Hawthorn would give their pick 9 for Burgoyne, surely thats better than Lovett and 26?

i'd don't think either will get the deal done, Port will prob pass on 9 & Lovett. For Melb to get Burgoyne, it will cost pick 2; but Port will start negoiations with picks 1 & 2 then move to pick 2 and a player... But for all this to happen Burgoyne must choose MFC. If he does Melb have the upper hand b/c of PSD pick 1. It would be interesting if Burgoyne chooses Ess and the deal can't be done; could be another Nick Stevens because Melb, Freo, WCE, Rich, Syd could all afford him under any $ he puts on his head to try and get to the bummers.

Port adelaide would be stupid to take this tack. melbourne would just laugh at them and then hold out for PSD. if we were to get burgoyne it would be at the cost of a young gun (making the trade stupid) and 18.

it is one thing to negotiate hard. another completely to demand too much and then end up with egg on your face.

Port are in the old catch 22 ... the more expensive the price the more likely they are to get nothing ... making SB expensive I say, top quality player AA, think they should demand a minimum of 1 top ten pick, 1 top 20 pick plus a sweetner, look if you say your going to "talk tough" start doing it!!!

Accept no less Port or you have been weak insipid BS artists ... ;)

It depends where he's named as his preferred club... If he named us, there's no way Port can play hard ball, as we have first selection in the PSD...

On the other hand, when Stevens wanted to leave, he wanted to go to Collingwood. Collingwood didn't offer a fair trade, so they let him go to Carlton...

Big difference in the two scenarios...

Thanks for that

Think you might find Pies & Port had an in principle agreement ... Just pies couldn't get there part of the trade to agree to move.

This guy will be in the front pages more than the backpages, several times before his playing days are out.

I think he had a penchant for stalking women a couple of years ago (apologies to A.L. if I have recollected wrongly, but I doubt it).

sponsers are hard to get, harder to keep, and extremely difficult if you team is full of immoral individuals.

don't need his influence on a young impressionable team.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
