Alastair Clarkson sanctioned by AFL

Posted by: 3AW Football | 3 September, 2009 - 6:10 PM

The AFL has imposed a suspended sanction of $5,000 on Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson for his behaviour on-field immediately after the conclusion to last week's round 22 match against Essendon at the MCG.

The suspended sanction will be in place until the end of the 2011 season, the league says.

Clarkson was found to be in breach of AFL rules in that he acted in a 'threatening or aggressive manner' towards Essendon captain Matthew Lloyd as he was leaving the field at the end of last week's match.

Suspended fine, a slap on the wrist with a feather.

And yet poor Maric gets a non-suspended fine, for doing something silly yet pretty innocent.

I know who has the deeper pockets and who made a worst error in judgment. Pretty soft.

Alistair Clarkson gets his just desserts?

Hardly  !!!

Exactly. Water off a duck's back.

More like whipped with a feather.

You agree with me.

IMO his behaviour was disgraceful and if you accept the account in the Hun today he deserved nothing less than an instant fine and a severe warning about any repeat act. His language was clearly audible to those nearby as he was yelling out to Lloyd.

Pathetic from a senior coach.

I agree, pathetic.

He did however succinctly express the views of 90% of the football world.

But Lloydy is the "Velvet Sledgehammer".

He can do whatever he wants.

Did he? By swearing at Lloyd and telling him he'd better retire?

Making stupid hollow threats is hardly 'succintly expressing the views of 90% of the football world.'

Pretty funny & hypocritical too, calling Lloyd a sniper when Campbell is moreso and Clarkson was as a player.

Weak effort by the hawks all-round. Absolutely pissweak really.

Hawks have come off all this looking pretty ordinary. But like I say, its been entertaining.

Clarkson was a [censored] stirrer as a player, to say the least, which was good value when he played for us. But as an oppostion player, he was a pain in the arse, with an inclination for the cheap shot.

He definately seems to have anger management issues. There was the incident where he let rip at Hutchie on the set of Footy Classified, and then the incident at the Coaches Association meeting where he let rip I think at Adrian Anderson, much to the dismay of many of the rival coaches in attendance.

He seems to have a liking for the C word. That much we can gather.

The fine should not have been suspended.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
