What a pathetic input by the Melbourne Football Club 3 players playing for the Scorpions against 22 listed players with Collingwood. We should have stayed with St Kilda who shown more interest.Maybe Dean Bailey is afraid he might loose his coaching job to Peter German if he keeps coaching a winning team.

Is disappointing. Hopefully if they win there'll be a bigger list of Melbourne players playing next week as they won't have the hang over from Mad monday as an excuse for not playing.

I agree it is disappointing... However, given the year Melbourne has had, we've had a lot of players play in both the VFL and AFL, how many players are eligible to play for Casey, and how many of those aren't injured?

According to searching on google, to qualify for VFL finals you have to have played at least 7 games for Casey, and less than 12 games for Melbourne, to qualify to play on Saturday...

The Melbourne players who have played 7 or more games for Casey are...

http://www.sportingpulse.com/team_info.cgi...586&a=STATS

Danny Hughes

Jordie McKenzie

Shane Valenti

Michael Newton

Rohan Bail

Kyle Cheney

Trent Zomer

Tom McNamara

from my understanding Hughes and Bail are injured... Kyle Cheney has played exactly 12 games for Melbourne, not sure whether this qualifies him or not...

this leaves the following 5 available...

McKenzie

Valenti

Newton

Zomer

McNamara

so effectively there are only 2 eligible players who aren't injured as far as we know, who aren't fronting for Casey on Saturday...

Given their age, you're much better off going with the settled lineup IMO... It would also delay these players their pre-season next year, and being so young, they really can't afford that...

good post vanlo. i would be very dissapointed if we were holding young kids back from the chance to play finals footy, but given the year we have had it wouldnt surprise me that we dont have many available.

can anyone confirm that list? and id be interested to hear what some of the casey people have to say...

There was unconfirmed talk about McKenzie going under the knife for a foot injury.

Good post btw. Nice to see someone attempt to actually gather the facts surrounding this.

i think this list in this thread does not include reserve matches, so a couple of others may have qualified also...

Casey $1.70 for the win.

Should Casey beat the Pies this week?

I was thinking of having a crack but think somebody would have a better idea of there form. Thoughts?

That's right. Jake Spencer, Jack Watts, Paul Wheatley and Matty Whelan all played enough games in the Casey reserves which, when added to their senior games would qualify them. However, Spencer (jarred hip) and Whelan (hamstring) were clearly injured last week and Wheats has been carrying injuries all season. Watts was sent back to concentrate on his school studies weeks ago. Tom McNamara didn't play last week and Jordie McKenzie is due for surgery. They've simply run out of fit Demons.

However. Newton and Valenti are probably the best performed of the Demons this year at AFL level so they will fit well into the club's finals campaign.

I'm not sure how anyone could have come up with $1.70 odds though because the Pies are close to full strength and are one of the in form teams of the competition. Still, the thing that you have to like about the Scorpions is that they are a team of goers. They can win this game.

gladiator, I await your response to Vanlo & Jaded's posts........

I believe an apology is in order to Dean Bailey and the Melbourne Football Club.

Is the 30yr deal not good enough for you ?

What a pathetic post.

I am not interested in casey finals but whats best for the Dees.

Lately I have had a suspicion that Bailey wants all players fit for preseason in early October.

He dropped Bartram Miller and Dunn but they did not play for Casey. They were promoted for

St Kilda game.

I think all that Bailey is thinking about is next year and getting players to have a full preseason.

I think Bailey is doing a fantastic job so far. I would be happy to win 8 games next year building

up to a flag in 2013.

Finals experience with Casey means next to nothing

Sorry there are no apologies from me . There are other supporters out there feeling the same way we have been treated in the alighnment.

How exactly have Casey been "treated", and what should the MFC have done differently?

There are (or at least should be) proper avenues for putting forth your views should you be genuinely concerned. However it sounds to me like you'd just prefer to blow a bunch of hot air with no views to address, or at the very least, clarify any issues you may have.

I guess it's just easier to urinate on the MFC than it is to try and get to the bottom of the perceived problem.

They have listed every player available to play in this weeks Elimination Final.

What are the other situations that make you and other supporters feel you have been badly treated in the alignment ?

If there is a problem take it up with the MFC. It could just be a misunderstanding.

A majority of MFC supporters are very positive on the alignment.

Hopefully it can then be resolved and everyone will be happy.

On a completely unrelated note, what happens when Collingwood have a full (or close to full) squad available and don't have enough spots in their VFL side to play everyone? Since they don't have a Reserves side, do their rookies and lesser players feed in to the local clubs like normal VFL listed players, or do they just not play?

Seems to be an apology right there...

Care to back those accusations up with facts?

That's not good enough. When some good explanations are put forward by vanlo and co as to why there are only 3 Melbourne players playing, it simply shouldn't be regarded as 'pathetic.' Disappointing yes. Talk like that is not healthy for the alignment. I think Casey faired well during the season.

gladiator, and anyone else associated with casey, i understand 100% how you would feel aggrieved. in fact, i would be dissapointed if we told young players they couldnt play finals simply in case they get injured.

however, it really does not appear to be the case. only a handful qualified, and of the qualifiers most of them are injured and either havent been playing for the mfc either, or are having surgery to get them fit and ready so they can play with their employer next year.

can anyone who is aggrieved please tell me which players they believe should be playing this week who aren't? maybe we can sort out specifics.

Never let the truth get in the way of whining like a 3 year old.

the other thing is, I'm not sure how much any of the other eligible players would bring to Casey, with McKenzie perhaps the only one who would make a difference (cheney if he's eligible)... Tmac didn't set the world on fire for casey... these players aren't going to make that much of a difference, to the side, and the casey team have aquitted themselves very well whilst being short on Melbourne players...

during our time with Sandringham, where Sandringham won a number of flags, the MFC played a big role in those campaigns... the last 2 seasons when our injuries hit, Sandringham's performance dropped away... as the Demons improve, and our injuries become managable, we will be able to contribute more to Casey's success...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
