I don't think Grimes could really give a [censored] about the rising star award, it's a bunch of crock anyway IMO. Jack can have a premiership medal instead.

Rich was a deserved winner, I don't know too much about Otten (so clearly he hasn't set the world on fire). As for Dayne Beams, i reckon people on here underestimate him. I rate him quite highly, he will be a much better player for the filth than Sidebottom.

The only reason Pears got votes was because the EFC had a sook about him not being recognised (boo hoo).

As for Jack Grimes, i'm quite alright for him to fly under the radar, as he will continue to tear the opposition a new one with or without a tag.

Still don't even know what it's judged on. More meaningless than the Brownlow.

The 9 All-Australian selectors (Andrew Demetriou, Adrian Anderson, Keven Bartlett, James Hird, Gerard Healy, Robert Walls, Glen Jakovich, Mark Ricciuto, Kevin Sheehan) give votes on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis. I'm pretty sure they're asked to award votes based on the form exhibited this year, rather than the capacity to become the best player or the expectation of becoming the best player.

Clearly Rich was best performer all year of the weekly nominees. Neither Liam or Jack G played enough games to be in contention.

Does not matter for MFC as the award is for the performances in 2009 only and does not nrate or take into account their potential. Both Grimes and Jurrah have a lot of upside which is what is important for MFC!

Agree that Rich was the season standout, and fully deserved his win. However, I have a hunch that our two guys have more upside, if they can remain fit. Only time will tell, of course.

They didn't get votes because they only played 9 and 11 games. Those in the votes mostly played around 22. Beams played 16.

I think the RS Award standing is a testimony to the quality of the 2008 class. That year has really performed well.

If Jack Watts proves to be the No 1 pick then we have indeed got ourselves a top line player.

And of Grimes she says :"Grimes would be pushing Rich and Pears had he been able to piece together a full season. His 11 games in a terrible side were excellent enough to rank him this high. Another calm, smart player".
