Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

The Majak Daw Thread

Huge wrap for the kid, already mentioned this in 'Rookies' thread. Plenty of info and discussion about him in that thread.

Let's draft him! Hopefully he's still there at 50 or our first rookie pick, otherwise lets take him at 34 if we have to.

Unbelieveable athletic upside and potential to this kid, and he's been playing footy for about 5 years, about as long as Stef Martin, comparable or even favourable to most basketball converts. At his current rate of improvement, he could be special in a few years time.

I suggested pretty much the same elsewhere. I think if we get our two trumps with 1 and 2..get someone of ability with 18 and squirrel someone away from the PSd then I would have thought we had enough elbow rooom to take him ( Daw ) at 34. That might be overvaluing him somewhat But I think he has something. Definitely worth the punt.

Was on TAC Cup stars on channel 9 today. Acquitted himself well. Says he is 195 cms and hopefully still growing. They showed a few highlights of him and he is quick, a long kick and can take a big grab. I have seen a lot worse. He could have a lot of upside.

He has come from a hard background and could be a tough kid mentally and physically. Football is a way to secure a good future for him and I am sure he would give it his all. All we need to know is if " his all " is good enough.

i get the feeling this guy gets stronger the more he spends around footy. He's going to draft camp so he'll have a fantastic chance to show wat he's all about...if he does well at draft camp it's only going to further improve his chances. he's a great story for the game of AFL.

i would be happy to see him come to melb via rookie list

It was gold. I thought he handled himself quite well. Spoke well. The Jets have been pumping him up. They think he may go rookie.

I think any team given the chance to take him would be stupid not to.

I think he may not last until the PSD.

Sure, he's a project, but if we're willing to convert irishmen...

His potential & athleticism is just... other...

So.... you think grabbing at 34 ( in a year of slimmer pickings ) may not be as goofy as it sounds. ??

I honestly think if we dont grab him...someone else will..He will NOT last through to the Rookie rounds and would be very surprised if he lasted to 50 either.

We are building up a reserve of midfielder/utility types esp with Scully and likely Trengove coming aboard, I think we need someone like Daw. Many picks are a gamble at best, but there seems a hell of a lot of upside to him.

We also need to still think in terms of a couple of years hence. Daw could be that type who could manage a Key forward role and happily second hit in the ruck. Doesnt matter if he doesnt bloom next year.. as long as he improves and hits his stride when we all ( as a team ) come good !!

The thought of a more mature Daw, Watts and Jurrah in the front 50 ! !!!!!!!!! :D ;)

Let's remember, he's being pumped up. He didn't make the Vic Metro team. Will go late in the draft or rookie draft.

I dont care if he is being pumped up!

I wouldnt be waiting around till late in the draft or rookie list to pick him up. He looks good in the highlights and has plenty of potential to go on and be a great player. He is a ruck and forward. Comon! Looks a great tap ruckman and is a very difficult player to match up on when forward. The bloke can outrun and kick goals outside the fifty. Not many players of his height can do that. Scully and co. would flourish! And the guy has great second efforts.

Pick 2 for mine! Ha Ha! I will keep pumping him up.

I dont think your being fair on Daw.

Sibosado was more of a freak and is a lazy footballer.

Daw on the other hand looks commited and is a midfielder/forward. Not too mention he is an athlete come footballer. Not just a forward! Alot more upside to Daw I would think!

FWIW, I still think Sibosado could become anything. Going to Freo doesn't help, but i think many have been too harsh on the kid because he hasn't made an immediate impact.

He's got serious talent to burn and if he can get his body right (he has OP and hasn't played since July), stay in games more consistently and build a solid fitness base, could be special in years to come. Contested high-marking forwards with skills and game sense like his are a rare commodity, however his inconsistency and perceived attitude issues do take away from his potential somewhat.

Daw is a different prospect altogether in my mind. Doesn't have the same talent or awareness as Casey, but his strength, fitness, work-ethic, and dedication are unquestionable. Add to that his leap, agility and unbelieveable speed for his size, and he too could also be a special prospect. Much more of a Naitanui-type (an elite athlete learning the game), whereas Casey is a bit of a Jurrah-type (silky, natural footballer with freakish ability, but lacking fitness-base) IMO.

If you could combine Sibosado's skills and footy smarts with Daw's athletic attributes and work-ethic, you'd pretty much have the best KPF prospect going around.

More than impressive... I've decided to have a closer look at him (missed this thread in recent weeks).

If you took Daw's footage you see there and could magically alter it to be (I hate to say it) just another caucasian kid, running around doing what he's doing, there'd be a LOT more said about him. He's not the perfect prospect... seems to run in a straight line perhaps... but like I said, if a 195cm white kid from the Stingrays put together that exact same highlights reel, I think you'd see us talking about him as a possible first rounder.

When I clicked on him I expected to see a poor man's Nicnat. But I can't believe how well he moves. There's nothing unco about the way he marks, or more importantly, kicks. Lovely flat direct STRAIGHT drop punts, for goal and to players. And you can tell he's been trained beautifully in the art of the handball. Nothing slappy about it, very direct, drop-punt action through the air.

He's got all the basics. The question is would he know where to run to, how to fit into a modern-day AFL structure? If not, he's 195cm which is perfect height for a KP forward, and he can be given simpler bookended KP roles. He appears to have a genuine love for a contest, and he looks enormous across the chest, so could be a KP defender on gorillas. Or simply a HF, or even playing out of the square to relieve Jurrah and Watts.

I thought Butcher was the only genuine KP talent going round, and all the others were either too short, or ruckmen, or NQRs. Going solely on the footage, which obviously is all I have to go on, this kid looks more than just alright. I'd even consider pick 18 for him.

I'm on him.

He's got a great pair of hands and doesn't look at all like he could be intimidated. He has planty of pace for a big guy. His tap work is quite good and he seems to love the contest. A couple of bone crunching tackles. What's not to like.

Given that hes only relatively new to the game he must have a very good work and study ethic to take on board everything that he has to date. Such a learner would /ought to do well under quality tutelage. Exposure to better conditioning and coaching could provide great dividends.

He's raw..... so are many good players when they come into the system

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
