Me either!! Sure Judd is a champ but he is going to be well past his prime when we will be up challenging for the flag. Trengove and Scully will be running rampant by then and we will be enjoying the fruits of a rather ordinary 3 years and have no qualms about the losses we had to have.

... You do know that Chris Judd is only 25 right?

... You don't see Melbourne challenging within the next 5 years?

2013 would be the absolute earliest imo, but more likley our window will be 2014-2018.

Geelong won the 2008 flag on the back of draft years 1999-2001; Brisbane assembled their dynasty of 2001-04 from '93 onwards; and if the Saints win it this year it will be because of the 2000-2002 drafts.

West Coast won in 06 - Judd's 5th year and Hawthorn were an abberation.

When Melbourne win a flag it will be on the back of the 2007-09 drafts.

I expect 7-9 victories next year; Finals in 2011/12; a prelim/GF in 2013; and a flag/s in the 2014-18 window.

will start stockpiling the champers now..

essentially agree but footy is a funny game,so much between the ears. If they get their tails up and build a cohesion quickly i'd say a tilt a bit earlier isnt unrealistic. So much depends on the fortunes or demise of other teams as well as the wildcard effect of GC and WS. Not that I expect much from them..but they will change the status quo.

Fair summary. I think the time line is pretty good. I would have though 6 to 8 wins next year but its mincing words.

I would not be unhappy if MFC had a Hawthorn like aberration!!

I trust supporters are not expecting a Phoenix like recovery next year. With the retirements to date expected, it will be a younger team next year still on a steep learning curve.

Cats won the 2007 flag.

Agree with your timeline assessment for Melbournefc. A 6-7 year process from the 2007 National Draft which would mean 2013-2014 when the 'window opens'.

Not be unhappy, it would be one of the best days of my life.

Like the sound of Daniel Talia having a hamstring injury that might make him slide - mentioned in the article that he's expected to go late 1st round / early 2nd - above anyone else I want Talia or Carlisle at pick 18.

Failing these 2, i'd take James Craig or Vardy.

Provided they're the best available of course.

Talia's injury:

With the advent of the 2 new sides in the next 2 years things may change a little with that timeline. As in we have 2 unknown opponents to contend with.

With good Drafting this year, i would hope we would have a crack at eighth spot next year.

After next year its too hard to predict (Jurrah is going to kick 12-13 one day i can feel it) We have so much potential in the wings..

Talia would be a dead handy pickup... just cant see him lasting til 18... he'll be top 10

My resaoning is there are few of his type ranking in the first say 25.. A team needing his type will pounce and he'd make a handy third tall type in defence ina very short whiles, then working his way up.

He probably ranks around the 20 mark...but this draft and trade period will throw up surprises..This kid will be one

Yeah, that's exactly why I want him too - I see him as a valuable commodity, moreso than another speedy flanker, etc.

Fingers crossed on Carlisle.

Oh, SNAP.

Can't believe thats the first time I've heard that.

Unfortunately for him though, I doubt its the first time Daniel would have heard it.

So are we going to bring back this trade/draft room, or what? Surely nine pages is convincing enough ...

Yeah, i think its time now.

Pretty much guaranteed considering we have saints next week(touch wood).

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
