Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I am a big Nathan Jones fan but I agree with his critics that he tries to do too much in the midfield when he should take the first good option available. He is super strong, ironed willed, courageous, good overhead and has a super long kick. After watching Chapman play in the last couple of weeks I really think Jones may be able to play a similar role for us. I recall Jones kicking 4 goals against Brisbane as a resting forward. Fodder for thought.

He's Certainly built like Chappy. Worth considerable thought for next year. Don't want him Kicking a bag this year do we!

If you mean by similar be the bald guy on a half forward flank then yes. If you mean play the same forward role as Chapman does then no.

Yes, he's still just a pup.

Malthouse said he is our best clearance player so therefore he should play in the midfield the whole game without a break or we may get accused of tanking.

Seriously chappy is one of my fave players and so is Jones. (i hope i don't develop a thing for little bald men) Would love him to become a goal kicking free roaming forward. Although 2 weeks ago i thought he might be a good Lingy style tagger so clearly i have no idea.

I like Jonesy too, we have just got to get him to be 1 grab player (like Jurrah) which will buy him that fraction of time that will make him a great player. Everything else is there !! :D

I think jones might struggle to get a game in the midfield over the next few years. He is a hard in and under type player and i think moloney and mclean(when fit) are better players than him. Grimes, sylvia and even pettard are going to be in the mix and then if we get lucky, scully and trengove. Its going to be pretty competitive in there. Haven't even mentioned the outside mids like morton, blease, bennell, davey etc...

Exactly.

Jones is an in-and-under midfielder. That's all you need to know. Personally I rate him. I'd love to see him get to the point that his team-mates allow him a little bit more space. Instead of getting his face smashed in the dirt before every ball up I'd like to see him star racking up the stats we suggested he was capable of doing early in his career. Plebty of great midfielders have come along who aren't very good kicks. What will get him past this awkward stage is a bit more maturity in his body, and sheer weight of possessions. We know he can go all day and is capable of big 35+ games. If he gets there he could turn out to be a poor man's Harvey. As long a his work ethic overcomes the fact that he's not a great deliverer.

Unfortunately this perceived weakness will almost certainly lead to trade talk in the next 3-5 years.

He would probably be a better play with that Paul Chapman role. Sort of Half forward/ may push into midfield. He is usually a good kick but can sometimes stuff up some shots on the run. He kicked 1.3 last week, just keep that in mind.

In his career he has kicked 27.23 in 67 games. Chapman had kicked 67.39 after 67 games.

Malthouse did say that. He would regard Jones as the best available for clearances against Richmond.

Moloney, Green, McLean were out.

The thing is, in conjunction with being a hard nut that can win clearances and contested ball, Chapman also has great footskills and is a good decision maker.

At present, Jones has and is not.

Would be nice, but Jones lacks the ball-skills, overhead marking, awareness and decision making skills of Chapman imo...

I don't know what to make of Jonesy tbh. Needs to offer more than just clearances, tackling and the odd foray forward for a running goal.

Still got time to improve, and he'll be helped by having more class around him in the future...

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
