Another Cam Bruce Thread

Well done to Cam Bruce once again for another great game. For most of the year he has shown great poise, skill, hard running and leadership and I love the way he goes about his game.

Yes he turns it over from time to time but who doesn't at Melbourne. He has copped so much unfair criticism in the past but each week he just keeps going and is our most consistent performer again this year.

Its time a few of you critics accepted this!

Bruce's best game of the season for Melbournefc. What are his B&F chances?

Who are his critics Pello?

HT there is one high profile poster on Land that consistently wants him delisted and there are others that I won't name. Just need to go back into past threads and you will find the answer.

All I'd like to see is some balance to the Bruce discussion and those that have had a crack at him in the past also concede that does continues to perform each week.

It seems we are so quick to want to delist any player at or over the age of 30 without any consideration to the value they add to the team. If they are playing well they deserve their spot on the list - its as simple as that. Also with all the kids developing we need some senior players as well to help and guide their development both on and off the field.

Back to back B&F's would certainly keep a few eating humble pie. Go Cam!

 yeah I know. Just thought I'd stimulate the conversation, so we can remind all in sundry.

By the way he's not 30 yet.

It was a good disciplined game with very few errors. That is undisputed. There will always be someone to razz other posters.

I'm a critic of his.

I also have a jumper with his number on the back of it too.

For me he is over rated, he was flying years ago and then the last few years has been quite average.

His disposal is poor to good, he went to playing a more outside game than he use to (but seems to be going a lot harder again thankfully)

But for some one who had great skills and talent galore he has not lived up to the standards he himself set years ago.

That hit from Guerra pretty much sent his career backwards.

He is touted as a captain and I personally have never thought he has shown enough to warrant to be a captain of the club and even when standing in over the last few years I have not seen anything to make me think otherwise.

I am happy that he was started to get back to that level and I hope he gets better again,

Is he a champion.....No.

Is he a great Melbourne player, yeah I'd stick him there, but not A Great.

Yesterday was by far and away his best game of the year.

To date this season he has been average at best, remembering that he has high standards to be held up to considering his form around '04 - 05'.

The best part about his game yesterday was that he (for the first time in 2 years) actually looked quick at times and moved with purpose.

Don't get too carried away by one good game but definitely good signs.

Pretty well summed up C84. I too am not a paid up member of his fan club ( and ironically my dland number IS 32..lol. He has played overall a much better game this year and yet for his experience and supposed abilities he still butchers a lot of kicks, ( one of his forte's in early years btw) and as a team mate I wouldn't be too sure whether I was his mate or not on the end of some ( many ) handballs. And this is probably the greatest shame as a lot of the rest of his game can be very very good. He is his own worst enemy.

Wow, he finally has a half decent game and everyone is jumping for joy.

Newsflash - he is our highest paid player and Vice Captain. He should be impacting game every single week, but simply doesnt.

Trade or delist.

He's played 10 seasons of decent games.

Why delist a player, who's a veteran of the club, trys their heart out every week, and is still picking up 30+ possessions every week?

I thought he had an ordinary start to the year but he last 4 to 6 weeks have been superb. He is in better form now than at any time last year and probably hasn't been in this type of form since he got crunched by Guerra.

Yep, spot on. Has been hitting the ball hard and with pace and is delivering it with conviction which is what he used to do. Great game.

He has been good most of this year and will be up there in the B&F. Would be more deserving of it this year than last year. How Brad Green didnt win it last year is still a disgrace in my eyes.

Fact Cam Bruce figured in most votes given by all coaches in games and i dare say that carries alot of weight when your peers give you votes and in what i would say the worst ever year of performances by the MFC i have seen since the seventies when we were absolutely crap.

So saying Green desevered it more than Cam is total crap, how many times does this guy have to play down back doing a tag role and still get shite loads of the ball, and yes i do cringe too when he does go to kick but there is a long list behind him whlo can't kick at Melb too.

as for being the supossed highest paid pkayer or ther abouts i say good on him, doubt many if any were deserving or warrant that salary, also keep in mind we have to pay 95% or some figure there abouts there aint many deserving of this figure last year.

If Junior retires this year i have no doubt that 'Cam will be Captain for his last year or 2, i have seen pre game what this guy does and the respect of the players he commands

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
