Top 6 now or predicted?

If I had to pick my best 6 so far this year, it would be:

Jamar, Davey, Grimes, Green, Frawley and (raffle Beamer, Warnock or McDonald (James)).

But going forward, I would think it is still VERY tough to choose. Do we base it on games played already? Because if so you would probably not have a Scully or Watts in there, even though we know they are likely to turn out as great players. I think Trengove has already shown he has the talent. Jurrah is a freak but does he have the application and body to make it big? There have been tiny glimpses from Scully (but tiny) and still not much from Watts (though I was at that Coburg vs Casey debut last year when he kicked 3 goals... and that turn onto the left boot to kick that ripper goal - albeit a floater - was special!!!

Anyway, I think there is still a loooong way to go, but interested to hear a few people's selections.

I agree with your top 6 but its not one that will instill fear into opposition just yet.

HT , I often find that pinned topics get viewed less.

Tend to agree. However, that may also depend upon the type of topic for discussion. This thread is a little different to the other's that are pinned. The thread has also been bumped a couple of times, for good reason I believe.

With respect to pinned topics, I understand that they may get viewed less than the "fresh topics", but the pinned topics (unless un-pinned) don't drop off into the abyss until bumped sometime later.

We can always un-pin it, if it makes people happy.

If we don't improve, Green won't be going forward.

We must have improved. Some interesting discussion on page 1. From the discussion on the best two in each area that you raised - here's mine at present: -

Frawley, Grimes

McDonald, Trengove

Green, Bate

As for my future six, I'll stick to my previous post (post#18). I'd probably stick Frawley in for Garland in that six now and replace Blease with Trengove. Not sure about Martin. Regretful call in hindsight. No need to make that call. haha

Current top 6: Grimes, Green, Sylvia, Frawley, Davey, Jamar

Future top 6: Trengove, Grimes, Frawley, Watts, Jurrah, Scully

I pinned this topic. Mainly because I think it's important and a good reference of discussion.

Hope that's ok.

Not that it's a biggie at all, but I wouldn't have thought this needs pinning. Like basically every other thread it has its moment, then fades away when the interest dies down.

I can't imagine this thread dominating discussion for weeks.

I wouldn't have thought that would be the case. As stated earlier, it's more of a reference for those that want to soak up something worthwhile.

Then add Petterd, Watts, Blease, Strauss, Bennell, Jetta, Martin, Rivers, Maric, Gysberts, Tapscott, Wonaeamirri, Hopefully one of Spencer, Fitzpatrick or Gawn and it's no wonder the club is front ending contracts.

Thanks for the reminder

I just remember the Melbourne Birthday thread we had a few years ago and I was keeping a close eye on the viewing and once it was pinned it seemed to be viewed much less and is harder to see, but anyway.

Yeah forgot about that! Thanks for bringing it up.

Interestingly enough, though I had forgotten the topic, I did feel very happy seeing Green going forward and I think this was part of it.

Frawley, Garland

Davey, Moloney

Jurrah, Bate

That was mine last year.

Now...?: (Probably change next week!!!)

Frawley, Grimes

Davey, Trengove

Bate, Petterd

Mind you, our back 6 is looking very difficult to name any standouts.

Agree. I'm hoping (and I think) that is a good sign. The more they play together, the better the understanding and performance can only improve. The last couple of weeks have been good. It's good to see Garland playing with them.

you got to be kidding.

my 6 at present:

Frawley, Grimes, Sylvia, Davey, Jurrah, Bate.

McDonald - although has had influence this season - is arguably gradually on decline and Trengove is an unproven up & comer.

Frawley & grimes are by far our best defenders at present.

Sylvia bar suspension last season is our best quality midfielder, second only to Davey.

Jurrah & Bate are our best forwards that trouble sides because they are dangerous around goal themselves as well as assiting other goalscorers.

You talk about "kidding" and then fail to name Green.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
