Young Dees to take the reigns

Next Season, i believe we should only be playing players from the following list including the new draft picks we pick up, we just have to bite the bullet, as much as love the old players we just need to get experience in these guys. You could only really include bruce and Green from the players i have excluded

So who have you left out? Wheelan, Wheatly, Robertson, McDonald, Jamar, Johnson?

You have only named 26 players, we will need more than that.

Jamar and PJ both won't go. The others are all on last legs. Although it wouldn't surprise me if robbo goes on for another year.

I think both Green and Wheatley will have a role to play next year. Both will be handy on the wing with Green pushing forward and Wheatley dropping back. Wheatley was very good last year, a few of us are starting to forget that.

McDonald, Robertson and now sadly Whelan need to go. Bruce will be there, but it will be to the detriment of the team.

Yup.

Starting a thread asking to play ONLY kids with "potential" (more or less) is indicative of how little fans on websites know.

Throw them to the wolves as a pack of teenagers and it will stunt their growth.

That said, given the patchy form of the majority of our elders, I reckon it may come true, the axing of our seniority.

The ones I'll miss the most are Whelan and Robbo. Two of the best demons in my time following footy, and pretty much the last of the Neitz brigade.

I love Robo but gee. he frustrates me. I've lost count the amount of times he's worked his way to the front only to then try and take a chest mark instead of taking it out in front of him, allowing the defender to get his hand in and punching the ball away. Such a basic error that is one of the first things your taught in schoolboy footy.

kids?????

i think your forgetting that alot of the players mentioned have played for three or more seasons or are 21 and older, there are some that are young yes but they are not all kids. playing the younger players we see who has the determination to turn that potential into results

ps. last time i checked you become an adult when you turn 18

Green could play on for a number of seasons so I don't see why you'd exclude him. Bruce will also play.

Whelan, Robertson, McDonald and Wheatley could all be moved on at the end of the year.

Take a look at the body shapes and sizes of 18 year olds (~year 12 age) versus elite AFL footballers aged 26 - there's a massive difference.

Yep. Play only kids and we will bottom-out next year (as in, go down again from this year, could you imagine!?!) and that would be disatrous. We need another 4 or 5 to step up like Sylvia and Frawley from now until the end of the year and another half-a-dozen early next year. I am thinking (hoping) we win at least 6 games next year. Seven or eight would be nice, but I'd just take getting our arses off the bottom at this stage, with another 20 games into the Mortons, Jurrahs, Bennells, Frawleys and co.. Then we can push on for 2011 and look for double-figures in terms of wins.

Last time I checked you become an adult when you start thinking and acting like one ... age is immaterial and only a "legal" yard stick. ;)

The big issue the club faces in the next 6 mths is it has to delist 5-7 players by October, most agree that our younger players have shown potential, so 3-4 of the delistings will need to come from the group of senior players. Due to this I think a couple might have their AFL future cut short as IMO McDonald, Robbo, Whelan are the ones in the gun but all three could still play on next year.

Indeed.

What I'm now thinking is a guy like Brad Green - is very important to the young brigade. He along with McLean, Sylvia & Rivers will need to show the way on and off the field, after the likes of Wheels, Robbo, McDonald, etc move on.

When we start winning, it's important to keep the young ones level headed and teach them that winning should be the 'norm'. Much like Judd is doing at Carlton. When wins are 'chalked up', may they enjoy it, but it's imperative that they recognise they've only obtained the 4 points, and that's it. The same when they kick a goal or two to grab the lead, it should be on with the job...and a "let's bury this mob" mentality.

Green and Whelan and possibly Bruce to stay. Whelan is just a great imspiration for the younger guys down back. He is fearless in the Green mould and I believe that he is reliable leader when younger players need that influence. I am not saying that he would play a full year down there but until the younger players get some experience into them he should stay. When you see Green put his body on the line so soon after getting his head smashed in to me that is inspirational stuff for the young guys. What Green does is what they all should be doing - be fearless. Until Spencer and co show that they can match the big boys in the ruck we should keep PJ at least because against the odds he has done a great job over the last couple of weeks.

I think Robbo and McDonald will go of their own volition. Robbo looked uninterested which is probably how Robbo looks most of the time but there doesn't seem to be the same punch that there has been in the past.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
