Dunn up forward (where he should be IMO), Valenti for McDonald (Inj), Cheney for Whelan (Love Wheels but give him a rest, and Cheney deserves it) and Rivers has been awful the last few weeks, leaving Martin / Frawley / Warnock and we'll need a tagger on Neon Leon....

Over the last two weeks Rivers has destroyed Kosi and kept Franklin quiet when he played on him.

Clearly it's not completely about form. Firstly, Hughes is a rookie and secondly Watts would be considered in the top 2 valuable players on our list. The ability to get some games into him is invaluable for his development. So it's reasonable to expect that decisions to play him now won't be entirely predicated on form, but with one eye firmly fixed to the future. And a little bit of hype surrounding QB doesn't go astray.

That said, Watts has racked up 20+ possessions from a wing the last two weeks with ease. He's done it in such a way that it hasn't looked outstanding, just languid and professional.

Yeah i do agree with you. But hughes can be promoted for blease and he has only this year to prove himself as its his last year. All aside they might play together on monday!!.

I think jack is going to be an awesome player and the last couple of week she has played very well.

Agreed. Im glad some of us in here arent our selectors. Its easy to look at stats and say oh he didnt do much, but if you watched the game he put his body on the line at crucial moments to force turnovers (none of which are counted as stats). Hes getting more and more confidence every week. He's gonna be great this kid.

I agree he has been showing that he has a good future, but I think in order to help him develop he needs both time at the AFL level to get familiar with the speed, hardness and pressure, but he also needs games in the VFL where he can spend far longer in the midfield (which appears to be his destination). He isn't getting a hell of a lot of TOG and possessions at the moment for Melbourne, so I think it would be good for him to rotate between AFL and VFL to benefit from both levels.

I think that is the best way to get our young midfielders (and to some extent forwards) to develop. Our young backs are seeing enough of the ball at the moment to fast track their development, as long as they don't lose confidence.

IN: Valenti, Robertson, Cheney

OUT: Jones, Miller, McDonald*

*If injured

Can't make up your mind, Clint?

Neither can I, truth be told. I've changed my mind every time I've opened this thread.

With the confirmation that Watts is going to play this weekend, a lot of people will have to reconsider their proposed changes:

In: Watts, Cheney, Robertson

Out: Miller, Whelan, McDonald (if injured, otherwise Bell)

You know what maybe you're right! Maybe I have enough passion for the team I support to say "You know I think i have had it up to here with the player bashing". So maybe it was a flipper chestnut. Apologies for sticking up for members of our team being referred to as duds!

Strawman argument right there...

It's got nothing to do with 'sticking up for members of our team' - I never commented on the issue.

What I did comment on was your comment regardingposters and their football ability and experience.

Falling back on the 'how many games have you played?' argument (or a derivative) weakens any point you're trying to make because it's inconsequential and irrelevant.

Anyhow, I'm sure people are more interested in Watts debuting this week :)

OMG. I've moved on Rogue.

Feel free to PM me, this thread has received great news, personally I'm looking forward to Monday.

With Watts now playing I give up.

I'm just about there too.

In: Watts, Cheney

Out: Miller, Whelan

Forward for forward, defender for defender. That's my final offering.

Hardest week for selections ever.

Whelan was one of Melbourne's best last week, won't be dropped.

I'd like Cheney to play, but I don't know who would come out for him.

IN: Watts  , Robertson

OUT: Bell, Jones (or Junior if injured)

I think Jones has been pretty close for the last few weeks being named on the EIB and may miss this one after having another poor game. I think Bell will also get dropped - don't think he adds anything to the team and I'm sorry to say he doesn't look like being in the long-term plans for the club.

Miller looked most likely after his last few games but I don't think they'll drop him with Watts coming in. Morton may be close as well and wouldn't be surprised if he was dropped or rested but hopefully he plays.

The lineup:

B Whelan Warnock Bennell

HB Grimes Rivers Frawley

C Bruce Moloney Green

HF Watts Miller Bate

F Maric Robertson Sylvia

R Jamar McLean Davey

I/C Martin Morton Johnson McDonald

The vulnerable players are:

PJ - If Jamar and Martin ruck.

Martin - If Jamar and PJ ruck, and there is no match-up in defence (I don't think there is)

Jones - Indiscriminate kicking may be grating on the coaching staff.

Miller - Has been down all year with a couple of exceptions.

Macca - If injured.

Bell - Harsh, but that's footy.

IMO, Watts and Robertson for Martin and Miller.

Very hard week indeed.

My concern is for Watts though. Lets face it, he is going to be targeted, if Miller is out, who is going to protect him around the ball?

A tough week for changes, so after the great news from this afternoon here are mine

IN Watts, Cheney, Robbo, Valenti

OUT Miller, Whelan, McDonald(inj), Martin

Juniour will unfortunately miss due to injury and Martin due to match ups, Miller form and Wheels has to make way for a burning hot Cheney

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
