Are you sure about that? Wheatley can kick it a long way, but many a time I have lamented his inability to put it to good use. You might rate his kicking skills, but i'd say you over-rate them.

Grimes has a much better efficiency by foot.

Agree wheats could kick it long no doubt, but no doubt Grimes will be the better user of the football by hand and foot when he is at Wheats age and experience.

yeah but, hes only 4 games into a possible 250 game career!

he plays like a 100-gamer, has fit straight into the team nicely and has plenty of time to correct his kicking - i don't even think its just his kicking either- IMO his decision making needs more attention

hes just getting a feel for it across half-back, wait til he crafts a niche in the midfield

this is going in one great big circle. Because its going straight back to the 'whether you can change your kicking action over time'...I personally believe no. You can improve your kicking action only slightly, but not with any dramatic changes with the kicking style that would be notice-able. Bate, Frawley etc will always have the same awkward kicking styles whereas Davey, Mclean, Green are kicking as well now as they did in their first seasons. Basically, as soon as you debut thats what you're going to be getting in terms of foot skills for the remainder of that players career.

You might say robbo has improved his kicking...which would be correct, but his kicking action is still awkward.

The game he played yesterday reminded me of a game Joel Selwood played in his first season against us at he MCG when he was a late replacement for Nathan Ablett pulling out. I was amazed at how someone with then only 7 I think games experience could appear so composed and read the game so well.

No-one is lauding Joel Selwoods speeed, however most people recognize him as being one of the future absolute elite.

Jack tested a 16.1 beep test in his TAC year, so his endurance is elite. Will definetely be playing midfield in the future.

According to Ablett, Selwood is one of the quicker guys at Geelong over 20-25m.

Kinda surprising but I must say I've never noticed anyone really burn him, or run away from him.

Having a quick football brain eg Sam Mitchell will always put you a step or 2 ahead (the most important steps usually).

On the subject of kicking - doesn't matter what it looks like so long as it hits the target!
