GRIMEY!!!!

So cool and composed for a 3rd gamer. I have to keep reminding myself he's so young, he certainly doesn't play that way. Looks like a 10-year veteran already.

Absolute legend. Whelan mark two, when whelan cleaned up aker i almost went home because it was so good

surely you jest. 22 games in a season? without getting injured?

edit: he missed round 17, and played in the first final (we lost to essendon by 5 points). apparently he did get injured.

Rivers missed a game because of "general soreness". Considering it was his first year not a surprise.

Grimes was fantastic today, great potential. he'll cement himself into the side very quickly.

Whelan helping Aker do a handstand was very funny!

so he actually managed a full season without an injury? wow.

hopefully he can repeat that in the future.

How were his two 70 metre kick outs too. I thought he was very exciting today too.

I think you must have forgot about 10m square. So lets say 60. But still very very good.

True :D

Both kicks resulted in Melbourne marks. One to Sylvia (I think) and one for PJ (who had another good game btw).

His kicking reminds me of Drummond

Just for interest read this article. (very old)

Jack Grimes is an extremely impressive person and possesses natural leadership qualities. Suffered season ending back fractures which is worrying as it is an overuse injury and one that may scare off clubs a touch.

Strengths: A ball magnet! Is able to win his own ball and has the tank to keep running and accumulate possessions. He is extremely strong in one on one contests and excels at stoppages. He reads the play well and runs to space to collect possessions.

Weaknesses: I am not a big rap for Grimes kicking although he often disposes of the ball under extreme pressure. He isn’t the fastest player in the TAC which means he rarely breaks lines. He is a workhorse when buyers are often looking for stallions.

Question marks: Will a lack of athleticism hold him back?

Draft Prediction: 15-40. I think his stocks may rise during testing.

Stats: TAC 2007. Grimes only played 9 games this year. However he averaged near 28 disposals per game. Unfortunately of his 209 kicks, 75 were ineffective. He only handballed 48 times which means his kick to handball ratio is about 4 to 1. I would like Grimes to kick less and use his ball winning skills to create run and free better kicks

where do we see grimes playing in 4-5 years? is he a half back flanker for his career or will he move into the midfield? if players like bleese and strauss come through, will he get a shot in the centre?

He is not very quick. He couls still play in the midfield but I can see him playing a josh drummond type role. His fantastic kicking skills could free up Davey for a more attacking position.

The game he played yesterday reminded me of a game Joel Selwood played in his first season against us at he MCG when he was a late replacement for Nathan Ablett pulling out. I was amazed at how someone with then only 7 I think games experience could appear so composed and read the game so well.

No-one is lauding Joel Selwoods speeed, however most people recognize him as being one of the future absolute elite.

Jack tested a 16.1 beep test in his TAC year, so his endurance is elite. Will definetely be playing midfield in the future.

Will be the round 11 NAB rising star nominee when we knock off the Filth.

According to Brock, he will be an absolute star for the MFC... and I promise me and Brock did not coordinate that conversation in advance ;)

I've read people say Grimes looks as though he has already played 100 games. I'm not sure about that, but he does look comfortable out on the ground and in the thick of it for a guy who just played a handful of games.

It's exciting to think what he will be doing once has played 100 games.

Can't wait.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. In a way he'll kind of be taking Wheatley's half back role. Obviously, Wheatley's strength is his long, accurate kicking. The next Wheatley?

wot da fek. grimes does not having foot skills remotely comparable to wheately. Grimes is criticised for his kicking skills whereas wheately's boot was the sole reason he made a career for himself.

It's a bit of a stretch comparing his kicking to Wheately, admittedly, but from what I've seen of him so far and particularly the other night he might be that player.

I agree Freak, however I think Grimes has more of a football brain than Wheatley. Although Wheatley is a suberb kick his decision making is often slow and poor, while Grimes' is the opposite.

Give Grimes the luxury of experience and I believe he'll be a far superior player.

Wheatly had played how many games and his how old?

wheatly was no where near as good as grimes at the same age.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
