Excuse my ignorance but much talk has focused on Watts and Blease of late. Just wondering what Strauss is up to, is he playing if so where and seeing as Blease will not play this year was he part of the plan for later on in the year?

Cheers

Strauss has just been suspended for a week after charging in the Casey reserves last weekend.

According to Bailey, apart from Bail, Strauss was more advanced than the other rectuits in terms of his development, and was therefore expected to play some games this year.

i wana get him playing for the dees asap.

I was hoping we'd do to strauss like what we did to bennell and play him strait out.

Bailey did say that he would be giving our 2nd year players a decent go to help identify and better understand the teams list.

I'm interested to know what the Dees saw in Blease and Stauss over Zaharakis and Swift. Anyone help?

PS. Other than Swift's injuries perhaps ...

The injuries to Trengove and Swift immediately put a line through their names. Pre-knee Swift was considered a top 10, or even higher, candidate. Whilst his second knee injury wasn't as serious as the first there's no doubt it completely ruled him out of calculations for a lot of clubs.

Zaharakis was over looked in the 07 draft. He spent another year improving his kicking skills and flourished in the championships. Blease was bottom aged and considered a better long-term prospect by just about all clubs. And Strauss was considered one of the top handful elite kicks in the comp.

Zaharakis is a good little player, but the upside for the other two is considered greater. Like all things, time will tell.

What do you see in Zaharakis and Swift that you dont see in Blease and Strauss?

I haven't seen anything from Zaharakis to make me think we have missed out on anything special. To me he looks like he may be a good serviceable player, he doesn't seem to have any super strong points though. From my limited viewing Blease looks much quicker & neater and Strauss looks to have a better kick & on both sides. Its all speculation for at least a couple of years anyway.

I remember an article inside Melbourne's draft day noted that we had a list of draftees we wouldn't touch because of injuries or other issues, you would think Swift was on that list. I don't think we were really in a position to take any high risk players given its a bit of a lottery anyway, thats a luxury we can afford in the future when we have a stronger list. I know you said 'other than injuries' but I don't really see the point in discussing it from an ability perspective if the club's decision wasn't based on that.

It's a real shame that Strauss got suspeneded as he will most likely miss another 2 weeks with casey's bye this weekend. He has just strung a couple of games together and bulding form and confidence and this puts him behind again when he really just needs game time afte injuries have ruined his start to the year.

I don't think Zaharakis's current form is making Melbourne question their decision to take Blease and Strauss.

the question is, would melbourne have scribbled blease's name off the draft=able list because of a broken ankle/leg. i think yes.

WTF?? Most ridiculous question I've ever read! Assuming that someone here can read minds, what will an answer prove?

Lights on but no one is home!!!!

I doubt it. A fibula is a pretty straight forward recovery, as opposed to the ongoing susceptibility that some have with knees.

Strauss has had a long run of bad luck so far -- injured twice and now rubbed out after playing with the Casey 2s. As has been alluded to already, his kicking skills are apparently elite. I can't wait to see these in action.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
