Jaded No More

I'm looking forward to it. Of course we'll lose. But I think it'll be closer than some predict. We usually do well against them (or they do poorly against us). I'm thinking 5 or 6 goals at the end.

One thing's for sure, it'll be anything than the boring affair Adelaide made yesterday's game. I also expect there'll be some great scarf-waving moments of Demon magic as we try to match the Cat's offensive style. And we'll learn heaps - players and spectators alike.

Only 13 to 1? Someone's optimistic.

Just saw the odds for this weeks game.

Centrebet - Geelong 1.01, Melbourne 13.00

Geelong odds look tempting. :P

Sportsbet are offering 15.00. It's not really a two-horse race though is it.

One horse. One pony.

It's going to be embarrassing when they put the Betfair odds up on the scoreboard before the game this week.

Currently it's Geelong 1.04, Melbourne 22.00

You really do represent the best and worst don't you!!

Thanks for your support for the club in an otherwise pretty tasteless thread. A shame you undo all the good work with your attacks on Bruce.

While I see where you are coming from Fan, what would you rather have us do? With where the club is at I think it's only fair we be realistic. The form Geelong is in is unbelievable and we are still a few years away from being truly competitive. That's not tasteless, that's just being realistic. Nothing wrong with that.

I would expect the Footy department and players would be having nothing to do with that sort of defeatist carp.

Mind you if it is a poor performance how many MFC supporters would accept a coach or players to say "Well we could not win and thats being realistic"

Sometimes I think MFC supporters are the most deserving supporters around.

Nor should they have something to do with it. I want you to tell me how we can win this game - you're always trying to prove how much better you are than every other poster here, so tell us how we win this game. I'd love to win every game we play, but c'mon, I'm not going to to say we'll win this game just because it's my team.

Oh please, I started this thread as a bit of fun.

Given all the bloody complaining on this site about everything (which I happily take part in mind you), isn't it nice to sometimes just have a bit of fun? Footy is afterall about entertainment, is it not?

Of course I'll be there on Sunday cheering us on, and I hope the players have every belief in themselves that they can give Geelong a run for their money. But come on, we are no chance of winning, and realistically we will all be there on Sunday just looking for signs of improvement as opposed to an end result that spells victory.

So all you gentlemen guarding the moral high ground, I suggest you step down. Being realistic and being defeatists are two very different things.

By the way, I don't think that I have ever shown anything but complete passion and support for this club, so I don't understand how anyone could possibly see this thread as tasteless, or defeatist or as attacking our club.

When a top side plays a bottom side they expect to win quite easily which can close the margin up quite a bit

Richmond v Geelong wasnt the blowout the scribes expected

One of the things that happens for a side expecting a GF berth is the fear of a long term injury which can lift the foot off the gas pedal enough to create more oppurtunity for us to take the game on and not worry about what jumpers they are wearing

The only way to beat the Cats is through fierce tackling and constant pressure to the ball carrier

If we kick the ball down the corridor and minimise the handball we should do quite well

The biggest difference between last year and this year is we can actually get the ball more

Its the next thing we do that is letting us down so i cant se the point in giving up the ball with an errant handball

Much rather lose it in a 50/50 contest with a kick further down the ground

Trying to play like Geeelong is a blowout waiting to happen and Brisbane can attest to that

Looking forward to seeing how our defence goes this week

Well if you think ridiculing the MFC is fun go ahead, I just happen to disagree. And if you want to set your standards by what else is posted here that's fine by me.

What is fun for you Jaded is tasteless to me. It's bad enough when opposition supporters make fun of us, but our own supporters??

It's also fair to say I read very very little of this forum now (I wonder why) but I wouldn't call you the most positive supporter at the moment.

It's just one man's perspective and will probably represent perhaps a small minority of readers, but it's a view nonetheless.

Number of goals that nuff nuff Hawkins will kick against us

Number of GOOD minutes of footy played by the MFC, and in which quarter

8-10 good mins in the 3rd quarter

And to everyone on here bitching about Cale Mortons kicking, or Jack Watts development or whatever, just shut the [censored] up. What purpose does it serve? We could use some positivity around here!

When have I rideculed the club?

Geelong have lost 3 games in 3 years and I would guess that most supporters go into Geelong games expecting to lose. Which is not the same as going into a game expecting to play poorly. I expect us to work hard but I know that Geelong is a 10-15 goals better side than us. They won't be forever though

There is a massive difference between being realistic and being negative. But as you said, you barely read the forums these days, so it's a shame you chose to pick on this thread when you do. Go read my thread about the backline if you crave positivity.

By the way, I don't think that you are any less "pessimistic" about Sunday's outcome.

If you hadn't started this as a bit of fun I was going to suggest we all get out of radio and TV coverage range for the Geelong game (knowing full well I would still watch it.)..cos you have to take the good with the bad when you support a team. Keep up the good work Jaded.

As has been stated, there is a difference between being realistic and being negative.

And it's all just a bit of fun. Some might suggest it's perfectly healthy to be able to have a laugh at yourself once in a while. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Concerning the game on Sunday, I saw Gerard Healy 'On the couch' last night suggest Geelong should rest Ablett for this game. James Hird thought it was a good idea. Personally I would hate to see that. I want to take on the Cats at their best and see what we can do.

Geelong have lost 3 games in 3 years

Actually if you go back to Round 6 2006 you'll find that they've lost 14 in this period and drawn one.

Of course a two year sample shows them in a rather different light.

You're right, and I was just pulling out some ridiculous figure to illustrate my point.

They've won something like 46 out of 49 games, or something like that though, haven't they?

The point is, they are beyond amazing and every single team in the competition has been beaten by them in the past 2 years, including premiership teams. We're on the bottom and we will lose. Hopefully we play well in the losing process.

Yeah, the Essendon team of 1999-2001 was similar with 47/51 (but likewise only the one flag to show for it).

They'll miss Lingy, he doesn't get the credit he deserves for mine.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
