I dare Dean Bailey

I dare Dean Bailey to play six (6) players (preferably forwards) in the forward line (where goals are kicked), whereby a minimum of four (4) players must always be within the forward 50 at all times, two (2) of which within five (5) metres of the goal line for a whole quarter of football.

What a joke it was to see Aaron Davey stream out of defence, take a bounce and look up to see no players in front of him.

Bailey will get things movin, bit by bit.

He has sweet FA to work with, but he is rectifying that.

You must remember he was left with a crap list thanks to Daniher and his cronies.

And before you say well Daniher took us to a Prelim Final in his 1st year, well he also had the likes of Lyon, Stynes, Tingay, Febey, Yze, Farmer etc...

Double dare DB to play 3 tall forwards (Newton, Miller and Martin) who can either take contested marks or create a contest, play Frawley as a mid sized tyro and two skillful crumbers Bennel and Jetta.

lol I know, Numbers would be against us around the centre stoppages because the half forwards aren`t pushing up and we would get killed in the centre clearances.

When you inherit Miller and Newton as your key forwards, you are facing a monumental task from the get go.

Lucky we have Watts on the way.

This is purely about tactics and nothing to do with players. I don't car who the players are, I just want to see Melbourne try this once.

I think we should play more like Adelaide.

They dont have a power forward just plenty of running players and they know how to utilise them.

I dare you to give this a rest... for at least a week... please.

You don't like our forward set-up, we get it, surely we don't need a new thread every single week discussing it. Either bump up one of the other 975 threads you've started on this issue, or better yet, move on.

Sorry.

The structure is great, keep doing what you're doing Bailey because the results speak for themselves.

Bailey knew what he was getting himself into, thus is open to criticism.

Modern football games are lost by either having a poor game plan or having poor execution of the game plan.... I'm not sure what I was watching today. It would help sometimes if the coach explained his thinking or vision for this team so supporters can get an idea of where we are at, but again Mr Charisma gives us nothing.

Bailey needs to start using his players to their strengths...Davey playing as the designated kicker off half back is a concern. I like Fijiman's suggestion re: Martin up forward.

I dare Dean Bailey to pull a sickie and give another coach a go !!!

I dare him to bring back lace up jumpers and duffel coats for the cheer squad.

How about netball bibs to denote each set position?

What if the ball isn't getting to the 5 meter forwards? Do they need a written permission slip to advance to 5.5 metres?

Everyone is frustrated about our impotence structure is only part of the problem. We had chances today, poor execution / finishing let us down badly.

I think that would be worst (if at all possible)...look at the assistant coaches...all inexperienced with minimal track records. Connolly taking the reins would be an interesting experience. At least the used car salesman (Connolly) would make sure post match media conference would have some humour and semblance of life to them.

get off his back, young players take time. we are building for the long term.

I do not want the senior coach to do a skit in front of the press.

You just don't like the guy.

That's fine, but his demeanour at press conference is meaningless to me and every right minded person on this site.

Mark Williams is a triple Premiership coach in the second highest level of football. He would get the gig if something happened to Bailey.

err did I miss something... minor premierships don't count for squat.

I shouldn't get surprised at the expectations of footy supporters (but I do). Bailey has had 12 mths to work with a fractured list.

How long did it take Thompson or Clarkson. Bailey's had 12 mths to cull the list, he's had 12 mths to instill a new game plan and rectify bad habits, he's now working with the youngest list in the AFL, and to his credit he's teaching the team something. This time last year we were getting smashed all over the park. We're no closer to winning one year on, but we've improved and we are getting better (and with younger players). The expectations of some supporters that it's the structure that's the problem is enlightening in itself, I just don't think I'm watching the same game, where I see improvement you see - well something else.

This thread had nothing to do with the players. It's about structure.

If you do not see the tremendous connection between structure and players, I officially give up.

For future reference though, please don't start another thread on this topic, let's just keep filling the existing ones with the same discussion. Thanks.

[censored] guys.....isnt it only R3?

Pretty sure they were calling for Alister Clarksons head by R3 as well...and maybe even Dean Laidleys.

You have to be kidding me?

Missed opportunities and poor decisions cost us the game today.

Colins free kick and subsequent report in the first 15 minutes are examples of this.

You can't be serious re: demeanour and way he presents doesn't raise some concerns...look at the other 15 coaches...all have a niche and some personality.

Not about liking the guy...its about RESPECTING the guy...

Re: Skit...you sure you're right minded?

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
