I spoke to Kelly O'Donnell at the game on Sunday in the old coaches box in the AFL section. Kelly is our development coach and had a few of the young guys watching the game with him and learning about AFL football.

I saw among others Watts, Blease, Jurrah, Strauss, McKenzie and I think Bail and Healey.

He was very happy with the way they are coming along and said that we have a great bunch of guys at the club who are being taught what AFL footy is all about. He was genuinely excited at the talent on our list and the future for the team.

He said they all get along well together and that was evidenced when Watts and Jurrah shared a joke and hugged each other. I was outside the box at this point and don't know what was said.

Kelly said that Jurrah does some freakish things on the ground and that we are all in for a thrill when he finally plays. He is settling in well and to my eyes was mixing very well with the other guys in the box. Kelly said we need patience for him and the other young guys but like Cheney, who he is a wrap for, he said many of them will make it.

When I left the box I was pumped and it carried me through our last poor quarter as I thought of better times to come.

Thanks Redleg, we all love stories like that.

That is the pleasure from this season, and next; watching these talented young Demons play, fail, learn, develop, and make their mark for the club.

It was a delight watching Garland, Buckley, Martin, Morton, and Wonaeamirri last year, as it will be to watch Cheney, Petterd, Spencer, Frawley, Maric, Grimes, and, maybe, Jurrah this year.

Absolutely agree! Could not have worded that any better. Exciting times ahead in the next few years for our club.

And you could probably add Watts to that list too for a debut late in 09. I'm definitely excited!

Great post Redleg, would have been awesome getting in there and seeing all the future of MFC bonding.

I noticed Liam doing lots of hugging and high fives with a number of team mates prior to the practice match against Footscray and I can vouch for the 'freakish things ' he does 'on the ground ', having watched him on many occasions 'glide' through training manouvres and handle the ball as if it's on a string.

I can remember how much I loved seeing Alan Jakovich play for us with his miracle goals. Maybe Jurrah will be the next player to excite the Melbourne fans.

Alan "13" Jakovich wasn't he Great!! So was the Wiz on his day. We will get more of that. The stands will fill.

I wonder if Tom McNamara was in Kelly's group.

He seems to be Melbourne's forgotten man ATM. Never playing anywhere and never appearing on our injured list.

Not last sunday.
