The evidence at last: DEMONS HIT THE TRACK AT CASEY FIELDS

MELBOURNE Football Club is poised to finally end 12 months of discussions and sign a 30-year deal with the City of Casey, ensuring Cranbourne becomes a home to the AFL's oldest club.

Melbourne has also agreed to terms to align with VFL club Casey.

Neither deal has been formalised, but Melbourne general manager of football operations Chris Connolly said all parties were happy with negotiations.

"I'm as confident as you can ever be on both arrangements," he said last Thursday at the Demons' first training session at Casey Fields.

But Cr Rob Wilson is not in favour of the deal.

“Melbourne is just paying us lip service. They come here in the summer months and it becomes a charade,” said Cr Wilson.

Who is this guy and should i care what he says?

In any case i'm glad that things are working out with us and the City of Casey, but what will happen if this proposed MCG development becomes a reality? Will that just be for during the season and Casey will remain a summer base? And given that it's currently just a summer base, where are we training during the season in '09?

Sorry for the inquisition!

You raise some fair points, Pates. If I was a Casey councillor, I'd be concerned with our announcement of the MCG redevelopment. Where will our gym be located? At the G or at Casey Fields?

Why would a council pour money into a facility that will be hardly utilised?

both

from my understanding, the original plans were (at the very beginning) were for us to use casey for the next couple of years while the olympic park complex was being built

then came the idea of it being a summber training base

so i think now, the idea is, we use casey full time until the "MCG plan" is finalised and then when that is finished, we still use casey in the summer, and maybe have one training there a week, fully utilising the community and what it has to offer

can someone clarrify this or correct me?

“My understanding is they will train here every couple of weeks during the season and the operations of the football team are going to be here all year,” said Cr Smith.

Isn't this in direct contradiction with what was reported about the MFC forming an admin home at the MCG? I'm confused. It would be nice to know something.

"In further news, Chris Connolly has promised to pave the Casey streets with gold and Cr Rob Wilson has been offered and accepted a bag of magic beans."

i think they want both

in theory: mcg in summer, casey in winter

I think you're on the right track Nugget. Interestingly, the MCG development thats been in the news recently would certainly [censored] a few ears up among the councillors at Casey. But I'm sure it can be all worked out. At least I hope its worked out anyway.

Lets try this again shall we..for the benefit of those for whom this reasonably simple setup seems a little too far

Casey was ONLY ever going to be a primarily SUMMER training ground. Like many clubs they go elsewhere. CF was also a possibly location for our footy offices whilst ( previously on the cards ) Bubbledome sorted itself out. So even then..We had Casey in Summer.. Bubbleland in Winter.. Utilising Gosch's Paddock. Footy dept to move from Casey back to ( again ..then ) Bubbledome when ready.

NOW

Highly unllikely to ever set foot in Bubbledome.. posibly a new training facilty within the G..still using Gosch's Paddock.. some supposed negotiations re a session here and there on the G. Personally I rather doubt that bit but great if we can.

So we would still be using some facilty in the neighbourhood of the G for training..in WINTER with an occasional sortie down to Casey..just as we have to other places in past.

All that really has happened is the possible replacement of Bubbledome with the G re footy dept eventual home and traingn facilities. NOTHING has really chnaged regarding Casey so why would any nong of a councilor get his knickers in a twist unless he has his own agenda ( which he alsways has had !! )

Simple really isnt it !! ;)

Hi Bub,

I'm one of these simple folk to which you refer.

Can you explain the statement made by Cr Smith from the article in bold?

Speak slowly, please.

just ...... for ........you ..lol

We will be there full time.., as things exist.; til new digs are sorted and fitted out. We will most likely be there in 09..as nothing is ready anywhere else and you are hardly likely to want to shift everything halfway though a season.

Thats ..what is happening..at this moment. I might ask on Sunday for further clarifications.

God forbid that Cr Smith was quoted out of context or a media type didnt quite get it right.

Sounds [censored] hot.

No rectangular-stadium or whatever the f it is supposed to be that many people donated tax deductible money to. God knows why, it's a rectangle, ffs!

We truck out to Casey for some summer training, which will require no real community integration, or investment hopefully, given we are heading full bore for the G.

While this is happening, we stuff 50 admin staff into a space for 45 at the G. The growth potential here is astonishing!

Then, in the winter, we invite our players to come to the G to train, but 'hop' over to Gosh's Paddock to have a bit of a run around, because the MCC will never allow those players onto the sacred turf.

Meanwhile the MCC may continue with a stadium deal which will send us broke because we will never consistently pull 50k to a home game, and if we did pull that many, we would still be broke because we still would not close the financial gap on the 'TV' teams.

This is not negativity, some people just have their heads up their arses!

Carry on..

correct a mundo... That was one thing that was irking the club.

Really if we look at Bubbledome form the begiining.. whilst originally a nice idea..along with Teram Melbourne..everything we were lead to believe was either eroneous or pure fiction.

Full marks to the club for pulling the pin on it.

I agree.

The only good thing to come out of Bubbledome for the AFL would be training for the International Rules game before playing Ireland with the round ball.

G'day guys, have been reading the site for a while, mainly since Melbourne expressed interest in Casey Fields and the City of Casey.

Just thought I'd give you what I understand, and that is; that the paperwork was finalised this week and things a set to go ahead at Casey Fields, with the City of Casey and with the Scorpions.

My understanding is that the Demons and the Scorpions will sign a 10 year agreement on an affiliation, and in terms of a facility, the buildings are still to go ahead ASAP and are due to be completed by May next season (was originally planned for late March/Early April i think)

The Scorpions from what I can gather can't wait to be involved with Melbourne, and Melbourne's enthusiasm has the club excited, the Scorpions really struggled for support from St. Kilda until last season really.

Caseyscorp, as you would no doubt realise by now is fantastic when it comes to informaiton regarding things such as this and he may correct me, but this is my understanding from getting down to the club over the last couple of weeks.

Look forward to 2009!

Thanks. I guess Mr Smith means "all next year".

I'm so paranoid about this club at the moment. It wouldn't surprise me if they announced we're looking to build a boutique stadium on the moon.

Im with you in being a bit skittish about l alot of this..We've said we're doing this..doing that..going here, going there..Training here there and somewhere. In amongst all this is a plan no doubt. One being hampered by the niggling antagonists aka the AFL.

Some would say we already have the franchise on lunacy !! lol

If can cook and you want to get into the action then there's a gig going at the Casey Scorpions for you:

The Casey Scorpions are seeking a Chef/Cook to fill a casual position for the club. Details can be found here! Ring the club on 5996 1111 if you are interested!!

I'm not sure but I think an ability to produce a decent hot dog and a hamburger of the quality of Port Melbourne's burraburgers would be helpful!

In regards to training at the G, did anybody else see the TV news this week that had shots of the Vic cricket team?

Not only were they training on the G but they were kicking footies.

How come! Dont they play with a little red thing?

If they can kick footies on the G why cant we?

Because they can kick footies incognito. No-one watches state cricket at the G, let alone training, so no damage done! Of course we, the MCC, open the gates during matches, but nobody comes, and that's the way we like it. We don't want anyone messing with the hallowed turf and that includes looking at it. You have no idea how much damage a child can do if he or she happens onto that ground. Listen, we are one of the few grand stadia in the world to have real grass and nobody, but nobody is going to put a foot on it. Besides it is so peaceful gazing across the vacant hallowed turf with a glass of fine wine........ what was that Eddie?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
