In regards to training at the G, did anybody else see the TV news this week that had shots of the Vic cricket team?

Not only were they training on the G but they were kicking footies.

How come! Dont they play with a little red thing?

Because they can kick footies incognito. No-one watches state cricket at the G, let alone training, so no damage done! Of course we, the MCC, open the gates during matches, but nobody comes, and that's the way we like it. We don't want anyone messing with the hallowed turf and that includes looking at it. You have no idea how much damage a child can do if he or she happens onto that ground. Listen, we are one of the few grand stadia in the world to have real grass and nobody, but nobody is going to put a foot on it. Besides it is so peaceful gazing across the vacant hallowed turf with a glass of fine wine........ what was that Eddie?

They are terribly precious at the G. A few years ago I was helping to decorate the rooms for a function, and my daughter and her friend (both 'tweenies' at the time) jogged down the race, pretending to be footy players. They ran out on the ground with their imaginary ball, and kicked an imaginary goal, then jogged back in to the rooms. Shortly afterwards, security came rushing in as if someone had a bomb, and grilled them and me as to what they were doing and threatened to kick us out if anyone had the cheek to put a sneakered foot onto the grass again. So two little girls are dangerous to the hallowed turf, but a bunch of cricket players aren't. Ah, the logic of the MCC - you've got to love it!

Since the Casey council is being sued by its residents re the gas issue, one hopes there is a plan B if the casey project goes belly up if the council loses. There may be insurance held by the council for such matters but the next policy may force the council to tighten its belt and not invest in casey fields etc. This is only hypothetical but should be a concern for the MFC board .

not doubting your knowledge but allocations can be changed, just concerned about dealing with councils (just look at St Kilda with Kingston) who have other issues like elections(as you say) and tight budgets

You are right that allocations can be changed, but the money was allocated in two parts (in June and August) and could well have been spent by now on the MFC project if agreement had been reached with the Council.

My point is that the longer it takes to reach agreement, and irrevocable commitments entered into (ie a contract to build the extension), the more chance there is of the funds being taken away and reallocated (whether that be because of a changing political landscape or because of other, unrelated, financial imperatives).

Of course there is insurance.

What is more relevant to the MFC is that contracts should be signed ASAP (if they haven't been already), then the council can't change its position. If the MFC is serious about coming to Casey, they need take some responsibility for their destiny and ensure that it happens.

According to my scourse agreement has been reached on the banner sponser, also Pets Paradise is set to go again [cheer squad] I think.

Both these were local firms [Casey], its good to see a beginning of local involvement.

Also I believe a club shop is to be opened there.
