Tom Swift

I know there's some risk involved but the potential payoff could be enormous. It could turn out to be perfect compensation for beating the tankers Round 22 last year.

The club showed last year it's prepared to take a risk with high picks. While it's too early to tell, Grimesy seems to be progressing well.

I'd be all for taking our chances again if Tom Swift is still available.

A 2011 midfield with McLean, Jones, Morton, Grimes and Swift has plenty of potential, if not too many runs on the board. Add Watts and Shoenmakers and we've got potential all over the ground (except maybe the ruck). It'd be a good time for Bails to prove to the world he really is a great development coach

Here you go:

The footage is from under 16's and as you can see there is Cale Morton and Rich playing in that team. Swift apparently dominated the under 16 carnival with Michael Voss saying he was the best U16 he had ever seen.

Since then he has had two knee problems (both from just unlucky accidents).

Personally i am firmly on the Swift banwagon. That's if he lasts to us, which is no certainty.

I might have to review my preferred selections !

He looks terrific.

He's grown to 192cm and he's mates with Cale Morton. I'd grab him at 17 if available.

There is a chance that he will be there at 17 because of the depth of this draft, there is also a chance that Brisbane, Collingwood, North or St Kilda pick him up with there first rd pick.... If he is there at 17 we need to grab him as WCE will at 18

frees his arms in the tackle, his kicking to advantange was fantastic. hands seemed clean under pressure also. never fired off straight away always looked to have time. would be interesting to see him under a little more pressure.

top 5 in a lot of categories at draft camp? that prob shows his knees are doing ok. might not be around after the top 10.

I've been on this bandwagon for awhile now and I think there's a fair chance that he'll be available for our PP pick. Clubs will be desperate for an early 'safe' pick with this draft and Swift is seen as a risk. Watts and Swift would be a great result.

I have to be honest, I'm still not convinced.

Clearly it was a struggle, but thanks. There's not many honest people left.

How clubs rate Sidebottom, Blease, Robinson and Walters will determine whether Swift slides. I think his draft camp performance may see him rise back up after being out for almost 2 years. Seems like a cracking kid, might have been a contender for pick 1 if injuries hadn't struck. high risk, high reward for whover takes him, and I hope that's us at pick 17.

What's youtube?

Heard about him last year and had a conversation with a junior coach (Sloane's old coach) at around the carnival time. He's a risk becaue he hasn't played a 'great' game since his bad run of injuries and he's grown a heap as well. He may not be the same player but I think he's worthy of a shot.

"Swift" the name sounds great, lets get him!

Yeah let's get him because he sounds good. Never mind the two knee injuries.

This thread started with the comment there was 'some risk involved' - talk about understatement.

If we draft Swift maybe we could ask Luke Molan to come out of retirement too.

Jarka,

I'm pretty sure Hannabal invented footy, so its a sure bet he invented youtube also.

He is?

The only encouraging thing I've seen is some glowing literature...

I'm not writing him off or anything, but...

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
