1 Valenti, i thought he worked hard all day

I would give one to Dunn, but i'm just not sure about the negating role. I know it's necessary, but i don't really like it when players hold other people's arms way off the ball. Whelan 16 touches at 100% i thought was pretty good.

Sylvia needs to learn to think, somehow. 23 touches, found it well, 47% efficiency not good enough

No Morton, surely this can't be voted towards player of the year, if you're going to make the thread at least know the best players.

I gave my opinion. I didnt believe Morton deserved a vote today.

You may not like it, but if Brock is going to have it happen to him every time he plays, we need to be doing it to the other teams best midfielders. No point being unaccountable and going head to head and getting murdered by oppostion midfielders.

As i said, it is necessary, pretty unnecessary post that.

And in terms of footy smarts, Jamar has to be one of the dumbest players this decade

There really is no love for Jamar on Demonland, is there.

Seriously, he was the best ruckman on the ground today by a fair margin. He did stuff up in the goal square, but he works hard and IMO has a very good understanding of where to tap the ball, and how to help out his midfielders. We had a lot more tap-outs to advantage than Essendon did, and it was all thanks to Jamar.

He definitely deserves at least 2 votes. I respect players who are not naturally gifted but work their backside off to help out the team. Jamar has really grown since White was sent to Sandy, and that's a credit to him.

Was it twice he handballed from a free kick he had to a stationary player who then got tackled, one i certainly remember that resulted in an Essendon goal.

I'm not saying he hasn't improved his rucking, so i don't know why you went into that, but i'm saying often when he gets it he is subject to the same "brain fades" that litter Colin Sylvia's game

Yeah, because he's the only players in the team that handballs to stationary players. Have you met our captain?

Look Jamar is an ordinary player, but he makes the most of what he has. He plays within his limitations, he certainly uses his body well and at the moment he is significantly helping our midfield win the clearances, which is a ruckman's first and most important job. That he stuffed up a couple of handballs is hardly a massive issue. Morton's disposal wasn't great either, but people are still giving him votes.

Are you being serious?

Where did Bruce come in? When did i say he has awesome disposal...

I didn't give Jamar votes, as i don't really like "encouragement award" votes when we've had a competitive match, and instead commented on what he does when he has the ball.

Are you saying it's not stupid to handball to stationary players because other players do it? As you said, he's a pretty ordinary player who makes stupid decision with the ball. That he's improved his ruckwork is pretty irrelevant to that argument

I just think that calling someone who is clearly working hard and improving "one of the dumbest players this decade" is completely unnecessary.

And I never ever said that handballing to stationary players is not stupid, I was just pointing out that this is an issue with a lot of our players (probably as they are still adapting to Bailey's game plan), and we shouldn't hang some for it but not others.

2nd best. Thoguht Hille was the player that stepped up for Essendon when they needed it. We only dominated when Laycock was in the ruck

I'll have a go at anyone who does it consistently, and perhaps was overly harsh in my initial assessment, but i'll stand by not having a go at someone like Morton for it because i don't think he makes stupid decisions.

Jamar consistently does and it is a flaw. It would be a frustrating forum if everytime we have something to say about one player, we then have to trail through the other 43 players on our list comparing them all

6: C. Morton - his best game yet and deserving of a rising star nomination.

5: J. McDonald - last week lousy, this week very good.

4: S. Valenti - four votes for a short bloke who has real brains.

3: M. Bate - and his old school won the opener as well.

2: M. Whelan - an old, steady head down back.

1: C. Garland - continues to improve, continues to give his all.

And Sylvia wasn't too bad either.

Prob with Jamar Jaded is he did 2 bad hand balls and missed 3 goals, all getable, and there were players who did not make the same mistakes he did, yes he did well, but there were more who were better, I was trying to fit Dunn and Wheels in both who I thought were good as well.

Green was OK. Maric was OK. CJ is playing well. Sylvia seemed to really work when he had the ball but slackened off when he didn't have the ball. Whelan, Wheatley OK at times. The effort was there but not the execution.

These guys combined for 32 possessions, 29 effective, for a combined total of 91%. Don't know how much execution you want.

If you've got to rely on statistics you're not watching the game. Pointless chip passes to maintain possession are a blight on the game. With Wheatley and Whelan, it's what they didn't do, more than what they did. Have another lok at your stats sheet and tell me how many times they didn't get the ball or how many times their opponents had effective possessions etc. etc. stat. stat....

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
