If West Coast get the spoon and take Rich ?

If Melbourne end up 14th ?

Thoughts ?

Hartlett is a standout prospect for mine, along with Ziebell, Deboer, Yarran, Cornelius......

At least the talent pool is deep. ;)

At this stage Hartlett, without a doubt. Vickery has improved his value over the carnival, if he continues to build on that form for the rest of the season it will be interesting.

That guy who played full back, was that hurley? I reckon he looked very good, which could free martin or Garland to go forward.

You've got rocks in your head. What number do you think that bloke will go at?

Agree Vickery looks the goods.

The concern with Vickery is that he has already had a full knee reco ?

After yesterday's debacle, it's unlikely that Melbourne will end up 14th. We're a game and percentage behind Fremantle and they still have to play West Coast so even if we beat the Eagles later in the year, we're still a fair way behind them. The likelihood is that we'll finish 15th or 16th and if Watts gets picked up ahead of our pick or if he doesn't nominate, we'll get Rich or Naitanui.

Then Jack Watts is going to the Gold Coast. He is a spud if he doesnt nominate this year. If he wants to stay in Melbourne, this year is his only hope. He will nominate, its a given.

He can nominate for next years draft... the goldcoast only has picks in the draft in 2010!!!

We are almost certain now to get 15th or 16th. Freo will beat WCE next week. they will have 4 wins and tons of % on us. that means only way well come 14th is if we get 5 wins and they dont win another game. that's not gonna happen.

with pick 2 we can get Rich or Naita if Watts doesn't nominate

I think he could easily go top 10, I saw a lot of him over the carnival and thought he was a stand out and any one wanting a kp defender will get a bloody good player.

Well if he goes top 10, I dare say we wont pick him up if we have 1st or 2nd pick. Lets hope he goes around 17 or 18 at our second pick!

I'm pretty sure they start picking at the 2009 draft, correct me if I'm wrong

It seems to me that Watts is pretty determined to stay in Victoria, and much of what he is saying is geared torward this.

Reading between the lines, i think when Melbourne finish bottom 2 at the end of this season, if they want to draft Watts and give him assurances they will be picking him with pick 1 or 2, he will nominate.

If he waits another year, he could still end up at the Eagles, Crows or another state anyway.

The proposal is that they would nominate 15 of the best 16 y.o. in 09, but nothing has been agreed to. Watts would still be available next year, but there's also the likelihood that West Coast would take him with their Priority Pick next year. ;)

It wouldn't have been at the Dockers game. Probably at the final of U18 championships a couple of weeks ago.

And i wouldn't doubt it either, as Watts along with Rich and Naitanui will be thereabouts for our pick in the draft.

i dunno

am going to see watts play this weekend however and shall make some kind of report

my mate is lining up on him so i hope watts has a shocker

They flashed to Jimmy sitting next to someone at the game yesterday, but who would know what Watts Dad looks like? Maybe the Watts family are mad Demon supporters?

Well it wasn't Aussie's dad he was sitting next to a Subi, that's for sure.

there is no way Hurley would slip to 17 or 18. Dual All Australian full back, won vic metro's MVP for the carnival has fantastic closing speed and last year played forward in a TAC cup game in which he kicked 6 goals. The kid is a gem and if his talent isn't his selling point then his consistancy has got to be.

More on topic i'd go for Ziebell if we finish 3rd last and Watts doesn't nominate, Kevin Sheahan rated him a number one draft prospect and after watching him in the carnival and playing school footy i can see why. Won't happen though.

Take Hurley at number one.

Absolutely the best choice - at either end.

Can Watts play at full back?

Not totally out of the question grasshopper

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
