This weekend:

Palmer: 22 disposals, 55% efficiency (4th worst in the team)

Morton: 21 disposals, 86% efficiency (4th highest in the team)

:D

Owned.

I dont rate Palmer, he is a one trick pony.

Not much room for improvement, unlike Sir Cale.

Age is no excuse, Dunn never hesitated in his debut games

Oh dear you really do show yourself up with feckless comments like that.

You really are a dill, Mo. He's an 18 year old kid that shows genuine class and an ability to find space, yet you say he "seems lost". He won the Larke medal for best in last year's u/18 TAC carnival and was renowned for his skills, especially by foot. He's 192cms and 79 kilos which means he can't yet hold his ground in one on one contests, or break tackles. These things effect his confidence and decision making. The pace of the game has never been quicker and he's still feeling his way. His turn of speed is excellent and as he bulks up and gains experience all the natural attributes he possesses will ensure his footy improves.

Completely agree. I am sick of people rubbishing a first-year player for first-year-player mistakes. He's making errors that are to be expected of any 10-gamer. He reads the play well, is in the right space at the right time, but a lack of confidence, a lack of experience at AFL level and a lack of muscle means he can't do some of the things that he was renowned for at u/18 level. Give the boy some time.

Cant wait til he gains some muscle, and some experience. He will be 5 times better than Palmer and Cotchin.

Agree re: Palmer. Palmer sucks. Nothing more than a ball-magnet IMO.

Disagree re: Cotchin. From what I've seen of him he has class, poise, skill and strength. Will be a star of the future.

What assessments ?

Try these for size. It just goes to show that when it comes to talent identification, you have no credibility:

I've seen 50 + Colin Garlands come and go over 30+ years. He gives me less hope than most.

You can wet your pants over any glimmer of hope, and I'll wet my pants over a flag. I've seen lots of Aussies and I'm far from sold.

In 600+ posts since Nov06, you finally nailed one.

Well done.

Did anyone see Morton's game against Adelaide in round 8 this year. Two classy goals from outside 50. As someone said before, maybe he should utilise his beautiful long kick a bit more.

On a side note, maybe Grimes may end up better than both Morton and Palmer. Didn't he slip to #14 simply because he had an injury query?

If you're going to judge Morton on what he's doing this year then of course you'll be dissapointed, but if you take into account that this is his first year at AFL level going from u/18's then you'll have a more balanced view on where he's at. In reality we really shouldn't be making a decision on him until his 3rd or 4th year, he's a reasonably tall lanky kid, so he'll take time to adjust to the tempo and time for his body to mature.

He's shown glimpses of what he can do, at the moment that's good enough for me, I don't expect him to immediately dominate.

Agree but unfortunately some are doing so.

Give him weights, time, full pre-season training and an injection of confidence as well as a team playing on confidence and 40 games under his belt. You will see a big difference.

I reckon in 6 years of posting Garland's improvement has surprised me more than any other player. I'm happy to wear a little egg and pleased the lad is starting to show something. It might surprise you, but I'd actually like players wearing red and blue to do well, as I'm starting to worry that I may not see a flag before I die. You'll note, however, that I've never 'completely' written him off or called for any delisting, etc. His pace was always recognised, he could take a mark, but his decision making was diabolical. He's improved immensely.

As for Wonaeamirri ? I love Aussie, but have seen plenty of his type. All clubs need a dangerous forward and not all have them. I'm glad we do. At the time of posting he hadn't done a lot, but he's certainly a fixture in our team. I am sold on him, but as said, I've seen lots of Aussies.

Now go back to your miserable outlook on the MFC and keep searching the Net for any more gems. Or even better, come up with a few pearls of wisdom yourself.

i wouldn't kick it to morton if he was 50 metres on his own. he puts a blow torch to the ball every time he eventually decides to kick it. waste of a pick 4. should have got palmer. never pick players that are in between hieghts (190-192). versatility is over-rated, i prefer specialty in one position

Morton has a lot of potential and i hope you live to regret this statenent which i am sure you will. Sick of reading negative crap like this on here. Grow up

I got Garland wrong. I have no problem admitting that. Back pedalling is making excuses. I make none. I hope he continues to improve.

Btw, who are you ?

You could just link to or quote the relevant post, as opposed to reviving a thread from almost a year ago to take a jab at someone.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
