I think his kicking is a confidence thing. He was kicking it beautifully at the start of the season, had a few bad games and became the clanger king, and seems to have that monkey on his back.

Confidence.

You only need to watch his kicks from his junior days and early in the season to know this guy can really play. He's not up to the pace yet. He will be. And when he does, he will be a gun.

It's sheer madness to write him off yet.

i watched a few games of Mortons in the under18s, and he had the best skills of any underage player by a LONG way.

he would slot goals from 55m out on the run regularly...

u dont just lose those kind of skills. he has an awesome ability to find the ball. when he gets experience and confidence and a physcial attributes to play afl senior footbal he will become a GUN

i wouldn't kick it to morton if he was 50 metres on his own. he puts a blow torch to the ball every time he eventually decides to kick it. waste of a pick 4. should have got palmer. never pick players that are in between hieghts (190-192). versatility is over-rated, i prefer specialty in one position

When it comes to early draft picks, I actually agree with this sentiment. I wanna know what I'm getting. For mine, players drafted for their "upside", can be hit or miss. A couple of examples are Brennan and Goddard. After 5 years in the system, we still don't know if they'll be elite players.

As for Morton, I was rapt with what I saw of him in his early games. Today, he looked like he was lost out there, and the 21 disposals were flattering. His decision making was poor, and he seems loathe to kick the ball. After his last shot for goal, now I know why. And I don't buy the confidence thing.

sure he's an 18 yr old runt atm in his first season. he's bound to make mistakes.

let him put on 20kg and 40 games experience and he'll be awesome.

waayyyyy to much unwarranted negativity on this forum, PARTICULARLY against 18-21 yr old kidz who are just finding their feet.

You hardly make a convincing case. All 3 played their junior and AFL football as kpps. Croad and Harley were both traded by their original clubs, and Neitz wasn't a draftee.

The point that Freak is making is that we don't know what role Morton will end up playing. In the case of Palmer, you knew what you were getting because he'd excelled at senior WAFL level.

And I'm not saying that Morton won't be a good footballer. I just don't know when it will happen.

You really are a dill, Mo. He's an 18 year old kid that shows genuine class and an ability to find space, yet you say he "seems lost". He won the Larke medal for best in last year's u/18 TAC carnival and was renowned for his skills, especially by foot. He's 192cms and 79 kilos which means he can't yet hold his ground in one on one contests, or break tackles. These things effect his confidence and decision making. The pace of the game has never been quicker and he's still feeling his way. His turn of speed is excellent and as he bulks up and gains experience all the natural attributes he possesses will ensure his footy improves.

There are so many footy stupid supporters on this site it makes me cringe.

there are no guarantees that morton will put on many kilograms. he might not have the body to do it. Matty Lappin never could. Morton would be a good player if he used his asset. Easier said that done from the sideline mate. You are being incredibly harsh on a young kid. I've watched Palmer quite a few times this year and he makes a lot of mistakes as well. You know what, so do all of the first yearers for that matter.
