This is really an extension of Yze_Magic's thread about gaining an extra pick in the top 10-15. Now my old man knows someone from Port Adelaide who said that Port were having a look at Daniel Bell. Apparently Choco doesn't mind him (he likes tough, rugged defensive players - look at Michael Wilson).

I doubt whether Port would give up a top 20 pick for Bell, but looking at their list a good trade could be Daniel Bell to Port, Robbie Gray to Melbourne (since he is a Burwood boy).

I'm loathe to start making predictions about trade week now (still 4 months away) but it's an interesting exercise!!

Threads like this shouldn't be appearing so early in the season, but I can't help but think you might be onto something.

Interestingly, Bell's best game of his career was against Adelaide (3 Brownlow votes last year). His best game of this season was probably the game against the Crows. You would think then that Adelaide must rate Bell pretty highly as well.

no way is Port ( or anyone ) handing up a top 20 pick.. go another round deeper and you might stir some interest

As long as whoever is traded is young, then that's ok... Or as long as the pick is a high second rounder or better then that's a win.

Not a hope in hell that Port will offload Robbie Gray.....

If anything, I would be more interested in throwing another player into the deal with Bell and trying to lure someone like Danyle Pearce!!!

Not in the good books down at Port at the moment.... Been told to pull his finger out of his ar$e.... Maybe Bailey could do something with him, seeing as since DB left Port they have got nothing out of him....

But, I'm sure DB has his views on who he would be after....

(Not saying we should trade Bell, just using him as an example)

Damon white is a poor man's Brad Miller, and i'm not even joking

Given their ageing rucks maybe a former adelaide boy would be required as well. That could make a nice package in exchange for a pick.

Particularly if the Blues entice Brogan to leave. (Don't ask me where the cheating so and so's are finding room in their TPP)

Lade is 32 and Brogan will be 30 at end of the year.

You "doubt" a top 20 pick ?

If you got pick 50 you'd catch a plane that instant and sign the deal before they changed their mind.

It's an interesting question actually. I think Bell could be expendable, i rate Pettard much higher (if he is ever injury free). It would be worth putting on the table.

I think you could get a pick around 30 for him he had a good year last year if he had a good year this year we wouldn't be looking at getting rid of him.

It is a common view on this site that loading up on high draft picks is more important than ever for the MFC because of Vlad's Gold Coast [censored] (or A.D.G.C.B.S for short), but by the same token, they expect other clubs to not act protectively of their picks the way we are going to. You wouldn't get a Top 60 pick for Daniel Bell at this point in time, some of you guys are in la la land.

I didn't think pick 30 was too much of a stretch for Bell. The chances of picking up a star at 30 is remote we picked up Bell at 14. Remember everyone was in love with Bell last year now no one is. He's had a bad year which can happen to anyone. At 23 I think he's worth more than what you think.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
