We are that bereft of a marking, goalkicking full forward that we should take the punt and play him if he's fit to play anyway. The Swans didn't mess around with Nic Malceski when he came back from his knee reco and he doesn't play in a fixed position at one end of the ground.

Agreed, watching the game I thought we could really use him.

Was speaking to a few mates from work this morning and the general feeling from these guys is that we need Newton.

we are lacking a big body up forward as you say, but our forward line looked dangerous on the weekend, quite unpredictable... so do we need to rush him straight back in?

dunn presented well there in the last quarter and I think we should throw him back down forward for the entire game next week to give us another marking target... so no need to rush juice in for mine...

Valenti for Moloney

Frawley for Rivers

Johnson for Bell

Davey for Bode

I forgot about Chip Frawley. So I'd bring him in ahead of Carroll/Martin as I said in the first post. Which would give me the same changes as you with the addition of:

Whelan for Bartram

B....Carroll.........Warnock......Whelan

HB..C Johnson....Garland........Buckley

C....Wheatley......Jones...........Bruce

HF...Bate............Miller............Davey

F.....Wonamarri...Sylvia..........Green

R.....White..........McLean.........McDonald

Int: P Johnson, Frawley, Morton, Yze

Emg: Bell, Valenti, Bartram

Possibly too many changes, but changes like Bell and Bartram are overdue.

Bartram was very tough and courageous against the Filth and Bell's strength is very important when he can enforce it, but both are hurting us too much with their disposal and decision making and need to get back to Sandy and work on it.

Bode and Dunn don't offer enough and C Johnson and Buckley deserve their chances.

Yze gets another chance only because with Green and Sylvia he can be a good medium foward capable of kicking 2-3 goals but he'll have to play some very good footy to not be an automatic ommission once Newton is ready.

Frawley is lucky, but has shown enough to be a great defender and needs patience and persistance for him to grow and develop into what he can become and the best way to do that is to keep giving him big tasks ala Garland.

Whelan for Bell, Valenti for Moloney as straight swaps.

Having managed to raise is hand at the post match function means Aaron comes back into the side, at whose expense? Maybe Jace Bode - who had quite a few 1% yesterday so well done.

The replacement for Riv is a harder one, Carroll V Martin...experience V youth & versatility [you can also throw Martin forward and into the ruck].

Who makes way if CJ returns? A toss up between Bartam and Dunn perhaps...with overall team structure probably determining the outcome.

I agree with most of this, but to me it'd be Carroll v Frawley (rather than Martin).

Johnson has been in the best at Sandy many times, but fails at AFL level. He is a top-tier VFL player and that's all. De-listed at years end.

But he's never had form like his form over the last month. And I think his game is much more suited to Dean Bailey's game plan. I believe once he gets his spot in the side, he won't look back, and will give us some much needed class on the half back line in amongst the likes of Bartram and Bell.

Brad Green will not play as a permanent forward... people need to realise this!! This worked in 2000, but it isnt his game style any more, he might float forward for some goals, but is a wingman now, cleaning up the HB line

Frawley has been named and rightly so...this yr is about development and Frawley will only improve by playing senior football.

Who will Garland get this week? Nathan Brown? Very similar palyer to Didak, and very important to the Tigers.

Also, i wouldn't mind seeing Dunn play a negating role on Newman, where he can also stay in our F50, and maybe bag a couple of goals.

Good outs for us, they lose their full-back and some of their run. Rance was a first rounder last year, wasn't he? Is it his first game?

Frawley in to play on RICHO!!!!!!!!!!!!

HA!

Warnock on Richo, or Garland on Richo if he pushes up the ground?

Garland on Brown is interesting, but I think if Whelan plays he'll get first crack.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
