Was anybody else sitting in the immediate vicinity? I was below the fight but it was in the front row of level two and was seen by everybody. Took forever for the cops to arrive and the security guards didn't seem to enthusiastic about stopping it. Haven't seen anything like it in years. Sometime more likely to happen at the cricket.

Watched the whole thing, laughing my head off. Some very good punches thrown, I was a fair ways away and they were still clear as day. Someone said it was over one of the footys kicked into the stand. There was a huge "You are a [censored]" chant started just beforehand, dunno what that was about. Between that, the mexican waving and the high quality (but passionless) football it was a worthwhile trip to the G!

Would've been nice to see perhaps 1 or 2 tackles, a feature of this great contact sport.

The Geelong and Sydney players must've thought "grass roots" was being well and truly applied to that match, and it was back to little league days when you weren't allowed to tackle.

I went... was sitting in the best seats I've ever sat in, just in front of the AFL members section, with Eddie, Buckley, Demetriou, etc etc...

And I was let down by the whole event.

It was weird. SO many good players who inspire such vocal responses from the crowd usually... but this time they didn't want it, no-one cared... the game was still up for grabs when the waves started... So I won't be going again, unless they change the format somehow... maybe bringing back the crow-eaters.

I can honestly say, the atmosphere and volume of just under 20,000 dees fans less than a week before was better and louder in every way.

Says it all.

Watched the match on TV and I must say, it felt very flat.

As much as I could watch some of these players over and over again, the game itself lacked emotion and physicality.

Obviously when you are playing against your teammate, you don't want to tackle them for fear of injury. That's why this concept of state footy is unlikely to ever be successful again. Players are such pricey commodities these days, and nobody wants to get injured for the sake of winning some irrelevant game.

Mind you, Jonathan Brown and Brendon Fevola in the same forward line was awesome to see. How do we get them both in the red and blue???

harvey played a way better game then fevola , he deserved the b.o.g

i hope they bring it back, maybe have it every 2 or 4 years , other then that since international rules is gone there no more special matches like that

i enjoyed watching it . even more so at the cameras the goal umpires had under their shirts

He may be a tool, but [censored] he can play. I'm sure you'd learn to love him the minute he starts ripping it apart in the red and blue. Did you hate Byron when he was playing for us?

I was three rows back from the punch up and can vouch for the feroicity of some of the blows. In fact 2 of my mates got there heads in the paper today, I was standing right between the two of them but must have been obscured by some melon head.

The blokes that picked the fight must have come up from level 1 towards the end of half time and just laid into 4 blokes in Vic jumpers and later an old man who made the mistake of trying to watch the game in the commotion and took offence to recieving an errant blow.

Security took at least 5 minutes to arrive and when they did (1 male and 1 female) they didn't fare too well. It took a further 2 to 3 minutes before back up and about 4 police officers arrived to escort the group out of the ground.

3 of the 4 boys in vic jumpers later returned. I think the 4th may have had a broken nose or something. Poor bloke, his nose is plastered all over his face and his [censored] mates go back in to watch the footy instead of joining him at the hospital to get his face re-structured.

Funniest thing out of the whoe expereince was seeing Corey McKernan leaning out of one of the boxes above us pointing and getting right fired up during the fight and as the police attempted to remove the offending idiots. I think he had enjoyed a few cold beverages up till then too...Funny night & and footy was ok too.

And they'd be wrong.

Craig Bolton plays for Sydney, one of the hardest tackling teams, ever. He also semi-knocked himself out on someone elses shoulder, had nothing to do with a hard tackle.

Kerr is about as hard as they come, and got a freak corky-type-thing sliding for a tackle.

The game was soft with no great defence (apart from the brilliant Scarlett). I can see though why you'd disagree with me, as that's exactly how Knights has Essendon playing, and you'd be used to it. Enjoy that, I'll enjoy the real stuff.

Unfortunately Essendon are just plain shite, particularly with Lucas, McVeigh and co out.

My favourite player is Beau Waters if that gives you some idea of the type of football I prefer.

Beau Waters is a beauty.

Scoring or trying to score is all well and good, but the lack of accountability is always going to bite hard.

I should know, after years of watching Daniel Ward and Adem Yze.
