when in their natural frustration our "suporters" describe Bruce as 'a girl" or tell us that Jamar should never again pull on a boot for Melbourne, does it give these pathetic cretins satisfaction? Or when Miller and Warnock cop it in the manner they have on this web-site?
What drives our people to carry on like this? Do they think it can possibly help?
Watching yesterday, I was struck by several thoughts.
Miller plays a certain role well, with strength and without fear. His disposal is improving. Warnock is promising. Lovely build, and seems to think better, more instinctively than some, perhaps`due to playing so many games with Sandy[There are many examples of players having huge numbers of reserves games before being top-liners at senior level.I predict that he will become a very good player. Jamar is tough, an intelligent knock-ruckman, precisely what is needed on a gorilla, and Bruce--just watch closely how and where he got the ball yesterday, and those of you who have been knocking him and even his courage, write a decent letter of apolguy to him--go on--just do it!
And quit destructive semi-personal criticism.

Criticism is always coming and seldom not warranted when a team is zero and six. I think you are very near overreach here and it is a shame.

Yes Miller was good, and Green, and Bruce, and Garland, and Robbo.

This win should be enjoyed, but it does beg the question...

I want to avoid the question for at least a week and enjoy this amazing win. So let us enjoy the 1 but not forget the 6.

I'll still call jamar donoughts cos I find it funny, he played good yesterday but I still think there are better players than him on the list. never had a prob with Miller, Warnock looks good, has a good size to him, hope he stays in the side all year, Bruce well the prob is the same as its been the last few years...... 65% effective disposal, not good enough for an elite midfielder, it's why he does not get tagged, he is not as damaging as he could be.

fine, ok--but calling a player like Bruce a girl? That's insulting and destructive isn't it?

I thought Warnock played a great game yesterday. Watching him on the back line, he read the play well and strongly contested.

The confidence in this win will do him the world of good.

Bruce has never been is not and never will be an elite midfielder.

MFC does not have elite midfielder. McLean Jones and Tj (last year) were and are not elite midfielders but they get tagged week in and week out.

Bruce is often playing defensive tags. Tagging roles aim to reduce possession of the ball

I dont know where you get the stats of his effective disposal but his disposal over time has undermined his game.

However, yesterday his disposal was good throughout the game but I know he has good and bad days....

Stuey:

Still only won one game for the year mate, and it took em a dozen

sitting at the game down by 50 points at halftime and then watching them come back from there.......it was much better than ONLY one win.

Stuey is dead right--too many of us are knockers and those who query players' courage are ,largely, cowards themselves. For a lightly built player Bruce is in the firing line a lot

All it'll take is one more heavy defeat and the % will never be made up.

It's low enough as it is

or one more win and we are even closer. we could go on like this all night mr 'glass is half empty'.

Cheer up eastie! It was a great win and it was fantastic to watch. We all know the problems with our team. We know that Jamar and Bruce aren't superstars but they played bloody well, credit where credit is due (for this game anyway).

Basically the players have set a standard and i expect that standard to be honoured from now on. Norm Smith would have been proud of that. Maybe just maybe our season is alive, wish there was not this stupid game on next week. Don't want the team to go stale. The Demons smelt blood after half time yesterday and they went for it.

If they played they way the did in the 2nd half against Freo there would be very little critising of players but the facts are that we rarely do that so players will continue to get critised in the end it's only 1 game.

we were playing a team that had a hard tough slog the week before, fremantle ran out of legs. jamar in the ruck changed the whole game we started winning clearances. Daniel bell got blown off the mcg by an old jeff farmer, wheatley was super efficient, miller played neitz style footy, it was good to see we could kick a few goals

Beautifully put Stuey! I wonder if YM would write an apology to Bruce? Not bloody likely! I still loved your long, raking DROPKICKS!

Rubbish, I've contributed thousand of dollars to the MFC. Without supporters like myself who contribute financially then these guys wouldn't have the lifestyle and salary that they do. I don't do it to watch a group of lazy footballers play 1 decent game in 5, I do it in the hope that one day we'll have a team good enough to win a premiership. I don't make personal comments but i do reserve the right to voice my opinions on players.

Right on the money Stuey!

I'll defend any supporters right to have an opinion on our players.........but what gives me the absolute s**ts is personal abuse or denigration of any of our players. What kind of culture do we as supporters contribute to the club? Keep telling someone he's a dud for long enough, and pretty soon they start to believe it. I'd hate to have some of you here as parents!

What someone like Colin Garland must think if he ever dared to read some of the posts about himself over the past few weeks. A kid, still learning the trade, and who has played a handful of games judged by know all supporters that he isn't going to make it. Pure gold!

"I thought Warnock played a great game yesterday.

Matthew Warnock has been in a couple of fantastic wins, now. He played in the heroic Anzac Day win v. Sydney 3 years ago(and was unluckily dropped the next week). Also he was in the Cararra close loss to Adelaide the week before. That was really another great win(if the lady goalie hadn't robbed us of two goals.......for a moment I thought it was her again on Sunday with Greenie's goal, but she was p the other end!.)

not sure thats possible. i haven't read one positive comment yet.

Who cares about Eastie Boyz, not a Melbourne supporter and hasn't named their own club as far as I know so his opinion means little.

Donny, I agree and have challenged posters who label AFL players as "soft" when clearly to play the game at that level they are not. Its a reflection on the poster themselves.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
