Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

SYNDROME # 47 AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT

Chris25 posted his latest phantom draft shortly after the article in the opening post was put up. At present, you can see the effect there of academy bids up to the end of the second round - 2016 Young Talent Time. He will probably load more shortly but based on his PD, I can't see #47 coming in earlier than around Picks 48 - 50.

As all Demonlanders would be aware by now, my judgement (let's not count Lucas Cook) is impeccable, dare I say second to none, when it comes to the draft.

Quinton Narkle, son of Phil and nephew of Pharc is the player I like. Get on board.

Prefer Pharc but I heard he's moved to Colombia.

I can just see the headlines and Dees news gushing

" We are ecstactic with player .............. We had him going early second round, what a bonus we are surprised and pleased with player X" and at pick 47 what a bonus for MFC!

RTG, you deserved more with this gem. Phil was good but who could forget the hours of pleasure watching Pharc.

I just had a look at the GWS list and how many picks they have which have a points value. They currently have 7 list spots available and 11picks which have a points value. All of them before our pick 69 and 6 of them between our first 2 picks. I think there are about 5 academy kids that they will want (I could be wrong on this) but it's what I heard. They could all go on the 1st 30 odd. Plus if they pick McGrath at 2. They may even go into points deficit for next year depending on bidding.  Under the rules they can only use the first 7 picks for points anyway. Our picks will move up. Especially pick 69. They also have 3 or 4 more kids for next year. They may chose not to match a bid on one of the academy kids this year, and still go into deficit.

I've therefore taken a phantom draft at random off the authoritative bigfooty website and listed picks 41 to 50:-

Chris 25

41 Dylan Clarke - 187cm, 85kg midfielder from Eastern Ranges

42 Jake Pitman - 177cm, 77kg midfielder from Norwood

43 Jake Waterman - 191cm, 82kg forward from Claremont (West Coast*)

44 Kym LeBois - 175cm, 66kg forward/midfielder from North Adelaide

45 Callum Brown - 177cm, 69kg midfielder from Eastern Ranges (Collingwood*)

46 Jack Maibaum - 193cm, 90kg defender from Eastern Ranges

47 Cedric Cox - 184cm, 70kg defender from North Ballarat Rebels

48 Jordan Gallucci - 183cm, 75kg midfielder from Eastern Ranges

49 Ryan Garthwaite - 192cm, 84kg defender from Murray Bushrangers (GWS**)

50 Willem Drew - 188cm, 78kg midfielder from North Ballarat Rebels

Looked very good in the U18s Grand Final.

I thought I heard something about them being able to use any of the picks they had from last year for points, but not allowed to use the ones they've got in this year unless they had list spaces. So they cleared more list spaces and can now use a lot if not all of their picks for points.

They always use whatever rules available to them to the absolute max.

Nothing wrong with that. I'd like to think we are doing the same.

I agree.

But the AFL implement new rules to get them to stop stockpiling picks, then the AFL adds exemptions to those rules and GWS exploit the exemptions. Makes me wonder if the AFL are repeatedly stupid or if they set up new rules to restrict the other sides instead of GWS.

Anyway, we've seen the effect of finally reigning in the Giants list spaces and salary cap. Hopefully the next step is the Academy and they can get back somewhere near level terms with the rest of the league.

I can only see three options for pick No.47 (which may end up being about pick 43) and given Tubby Taylor's recent track record I am sure he'll be on the money.

1) Tall forward/mobile ruck option - It wouldn't surprise me if we nabbed an out of contract player like Zac Clarke if available but he will more than likely be taken even later - possibly as a rookie. Alternatively we may go another project tall. Once again we may wait until the rookie list for this.

2) Pacey small forward/midfielder - with our defence now shored up (Hibberd, McKenna and Smith), this posy is now a priority. We will want to be picking up someone who can apply pressure to Jeffy, who is facing a huge year after a fairly average second year at the Dees. Given we picked up another slowish midfielder (Lewis), it will be a player with major pace - hence someone like Galluci if he slipped through. But most of the quick kids will be taken higher than expected because all clubs now realise that pace is critical to the current transition game.

3) Someone who sneaked through who Taylor rated highly - Unless there is a gun awaiting us in the above two categories us, then the most likely option is that we will go for someone who we think has been underrated by other clubs. What position that is, is pretty much irrelevant as apart from two above areas, we are now pretty much covered.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
