Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack Watts out of contract at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

I reckon it's getting a bit delicate at the moment. The telecast today reminded me that he's out of contract.

On current performance, he deserves a 2 year, $250,000 (in total) extension due to the fact that he's shown nothing compared to his top 10 peers such as Hill, Nick Nat, Rich and Hurley. However his potential and under 18's reputation demands more.

Obviously the above contract won't be enough to get the job done, as Gold Coast or GWS will pay more than that for a "potential" gun forward.

What do you think the Dees should offer, keeping in mind his performance thus far, to protect him from the expansion teams??

He is really giving me the sh!ts at the moment. He is a one contest player, once he has gone for that first contest their is NO second effort, and if i was his shoe sponsor i would be very worried about the marketing they would be getting by being on his feet.

I think he would greatly benefit from a specialist forward coach, obviously cash restricts us there.

He deserves another contract offer, but if there is no improvement shown by the end of that contract, i think he will be sent on his way

He's shown a bit more than Watts at this stage, wouldn't you agree?

This is not a Watts bashing thread as I'm convinced he'll at least become a servicable 35 goal a year player. He has the skill set and natural ability to support my assertion. However the club may have their hands tied behind their back in terms of offering a contract above market value at the moment, when you consider Ricky Petterd has the runs on the board and will have GC throwing $100 bills at him.

Garry Lyon is always saying he will do anything to help out the club. How about he come down to try and help the Jack Watts cause?

ENOUGH WITH STUPID JACK WATTS THREADS!!!!!!!!!

Has the discussion regarding the Jack Watts contract extension been done to death??

Unlike other threads where we bag him, this is more of a managerial discussion and how we can protect him from the new clubs without paying above the odds.

The sticking of the boot into Watts has been done to death.

We would never discuss how much any of our players should earn, and nor should we. We have a list manager for that, and all we should care about is that he is signed and continues to develop.

FFS, he has played less than 10 games, and he is struggling. He needs to become more physical and demand the ball more, but he has talent coming out of his behind. Deal with it and move the hell on.

There is NOTHING productive about these Jack Watts subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, bashing threads.

Close the thread if you wish. But refer to post 5 where I aknowledge that he's got the skill set to become a good player in the future.

I just thought it might be a little thought provoking on how we approach his re-signing considering the new clubs want young raw talent and that he hasn't shown the promise that other early picks like Morton, Grimes, Scully and

Trengove have.

close thread, ridiculous

Were you watching the same game as I today? I'd say minimum wage. I have waited and I have watched, it's like a giraffe learning to walk he can not walk or keep his feet he really has no idea what to do out there in the big league if we want to develop him keep him in the magoos,I'm afraid he is the next Tom Hawkins.. dominated at junior level but lost when it counts... I hope not but at he moment computer says no..

I say let jack watts get finals experience at casey. Since the Port Game he has been very ordinary

You have my vote! why is the guy untouchable?

In his time with Melbourne he has shown me very little except the souls of his feet.

Gold Coast can over pay him if they like.

What do you people expect from a kid who has played less than 10 games.

He is playing the most difficult position on the ground.

He is still a light frame.

He hasn't yet had a full pre-season.

He is getting one of the better backmen every week.

He is learning.

He will get the two years. How much cash- who cares? He won't be going anywhere.

If the world blew up tomorrow it would be Jack Watts' fault.

End this thread now.

Its no wonder you leave the contract negotiations to professionals like Harrington.

Watts' disposition re the other players has been done to death...and resurrection.

His first year was a write off due to his final year of studies.

He has yet to complete a full pre season.

He is phyisically underdeveloped for AFL football.

He lacks the junior football pedigree of Scully or Trengove having spent most of it in the APS schools system.

He was always going to be a development player.

The club have clearly mapped out his development program and know his timeline. He has lots to things to work on. But there are a number of positives about the kids

Pay him base wages for the next two years = Great thinking that.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
