  1. Nah...and Kelly is overrated, way overrated.
  2. I didn't say it was the catalyst. ...but did think it would have been good to see where they were at the end of the season if they had played it out together.
  3. I liked the Jackson - Weid combo...a pity Jackson went down as a bit more time could have cemented that pairing without the need to chase Brown. We played some good footy when those 2 were left as the keys. As an aside, I wonder how much influence the CEO had in us chasing Brown? He seemed pretty keen on us chasing a key forward. Just a thought...
  4. An article on the AFL site today list who they think is the best midfielder for each club so far in the 21st century. They listed Nathan Jones as ours...personally I think it's Clayton Oliver. Nathan gets votes for longevity but Clayton is an AA mid and has also been consistently good which to me gives him the points. Nathan Jones (286 games from 2006-present) Some Demons had greater highs – think Clayton Oliver, Adem Yze, Cameron Bruce, Brownlow medallist Shane Woewodin or Travis Johnstone – but none performed as consistently or purely as a midfielder for longer than Jones. He's a triple Keith 'Bluey' Truscott medallist, a former club captain and could pass David Neitz next year as Melbourne's most-capped player. Jones was the most dependable Dee through the club's dark era that they only emerged from in recent seasons. Oliver will inherit this mantle but has played only 83 games. The other contender was James McDonald, another tireless worker who played 251 times for Melbourne, won two best and fairests and was an All-Australian in 2006. - Marc McGowan
  5. Don't want to go on with this too much. ...but it would seem one year is the middle position. Jackson is thinking maybe, maybe not. Of course I might be totally off track but it is unusual. For most first year players when they sign an extension it's for 2 years.
  6. Jackson only signed a 1 year extension...the usual is 2 years which is what Rivers & Kossy signed... My point in regard to this is similar to yours, we win games & players stay. Jackson taking a year put's him in the undecided category.
  7. Father time to catch up & Cats miss the 8...
  8. Tom went forward as a last resort when his form dropped off in defence. He'd become a liability.
  9. Lynch and May were on big $'s to stay and in the end even that didn't convince them to stay. Early years they were on the improve but stalled and they moved on. Jackson only took a short option on his future. It's pretty obvious that he's looking at how we shape up. If we head backwards he'll be off quicker than you can say Perth...
  10. This is just not a very smart post. If Goody gets the sack next year it means we will have failed. That puts us back in rebuild territory as you can guarantee players like Oliver, Petracca and Jackson will be looking to move on. The happy outcome would be for Goody to prove most wrong and turn out to be a master premiership winning coach. That is unless it's more important for you to be proved right than us getting success.
  11. If we get smashed it won't be an overreaction.... It's solid top 4 or bust next season.
  12. 'norm', you consistently build these players up like they're the 2nd coming of Barassi... ...are you sure you're not shifter Sheehan or Michael Turner in disguise???
  13. Parish is a good footballer, was always going to be. It's wrong to call him list filler. He was the safe pick... He's just not the quality of Oliver and I'm happy we took the gamble with him.
  14. Have you met him 'old dee'?
  15. rjay replied to Elegt's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jake is usually on the money, the hun can be a bit hit or miss. Who do you believe? or has someone else corroborated either of these stories. I hope the Hun is right as I like to see C/wood suffer, but....
  16. I just don't understand how the smart people in charge of the game couldn't see the holes in the NGA thing in the first place. Enough of us on here could see it... It was a dumb idea from the start.
  17. No Excuses then lists 4... *2020 *Lost preseason advantage *Cancelled game *Cairns I always find it funny when coaches say this. There are always reasons that can be seen as excuses. When is a reason an excuse and an excuse a reason by the way.
  18. I don't know...I'm not overly excited. I never like the idea of drafting needs.
  19. I think even Kane Cornes will like this appointment....not that we need to pass the Kane test but he is a big wrap for Williams.
  20. Experience has just walked in the building...Yze now Williams to go with Richardson. A wealth of footy knowledge and finally some real experience. It's been our weakness in the FD. edit: did I say I was excited??? you bet I am.
  21. It was probably coming after he missed the CEO position. Then the sideways/backwards move was the last straw. Interesting though that he wasn't their first choice.
  22. 'Jimmy' me lad. The job was never done, it was half a....rebuild. Roos taking the money and running without getting his man. Jackson in some too and fro with the Prez, not able to complete his job. It was never finished.
  23. I think Dodo must have pix...he might win. Can't see any other reason he has kept his job.
