Trenners has all the qualities of a good leader, I am a big fan of his, he is a very good footballer with great discipline. In my mind will be a gun midfielder in a couple of years, but having said all that I am also of the opinion that him being given the captaincy at such an early stage may have been premature. Despite the many knockers on this site Trenners is the least of the clubs worries

I beg to differ they knew there was a problem with Cousins when Judge brought it to their attention in 2001, he was moved on. Worst case scenario we finish bottom, which I honestly think wont happen but if we do Thomas BOYD will he remain Number 1, we don't need him but pretty sure Freo, Crows, Lions and Port would not say no to him. What do they wish to put on the table for the number 1 pick. You would want two players or 1 player and their first pick Freo - Barlow and their first pick Crows - Sloan & Mckay or Sloan + their first pick Lions - Rockliff or Rich and first pick Port - You wont get Hartlett or Wingard and so maybe say okay Wines + your first pick but at this rate he is heading up there to there untouchable basket Just scenarios thrown up but as I say I don't expect us to have pick 1 or 2 and hopefully we wont need to think about it

You make your own luck Hardnut, Pies were a very good side in 2010/11 and were very unlucky not to go back to back. IMO we don't have nor have we ever had the cattle or the leadership to play the Geelong style. Pies game plan with a bit of tweaking will also work. There is no set in concrete formula

Why can't we have all three when the time arrives, GWS did it with Scully & Freo did it with Lyon, this is a ruthless business and he wont be coming cheap if he continues the way he started. If he does we should be in his ear in the off season and start putting offers on the table before Port start offering him a new contract next season. Have to say I agree with you Redleg, from memory when Brereton got involved with the Hawks he set about them drafting a particular style of player and they all had to be hard at it players. I knew nothing about Cook so wont go into the Cook/Darling debate I watched Darling from a young age and also saw how dramatically he dropped off when he started playing seniors at West Perth, so I was not surprised he was looked over by a lot of clubs. But it is clear with the Watts, Morton, Bennell & Gysbert pick ups BP had absolutely no idea or a massive lack of investigative ability to establish if the players had a solid work ethic. Surely above Cook if we didn't want Darling there were much better obvious choices. I would assume he was trying to find a star which other recruiters were not aware of or more to the point other recruiters did not rate as highly as he did. I would assume we have addressed the problem by moving BP on and taking Taylor from Collingwood and this will take time, Taggert, Clark, Couch, Magner, Viney, Kent, Hogan seem to show the players Neeld likes. Toumpas goes against them a bit over Wines but I will cop that as we were getting Viney. Neeld has taken no prisoners with the way he has undertaken the dramatic change and it looks as it could cost him his job, but we really did need to start going down this road while Danniher was here and not leave it this late. I may be biased but in a choice of two always would go for the player with work ethic and/or nasty streak over a long term project player. Yes we have had a big problem with development but the recruiting was the major factor and the philosophy BP chose with talent over ethic is the reason we do not have Hurley, Dangerfield, Sloan, Hennebury, Shuey and either Tallia or Darling.
