THE DRAFT: TAC CUP FUTURE STARS ROLLING DRAFT
Pennant St Dee replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
May need to consider the game evolving again with the reduction in interchange, players with endurance will come back into vogue. Fast impact players who rotate a lot will IMO have less impact. -
If we get pick 1 as a PP and it is a very big if , that is what I would put on the table as I put in another thread, this draft is very heavy on midfielder players which is why Pick 1 is so valuable with Boyd and Hogan the best of this age group and we already have Hogan. There are a lot of clubs chasing Boyd hence why Pick 1 is highly sought after. There is so much conjecture about who to pick next with Aish, Kelly, Scharenburg, Billings, Sheed etc I feel it makes pick 2 a lot less sought after. As others have said use Pick 2 on a good young Mid, but I am all for using pick 1 PP if we get it to grab 2 decent mids to get us up and running through the midfield

I watched the first half yesterday before going to WAFL and watched the 2nd half last night. Just Wow I thought Darwin may be a factor but that is to convenient an excuse. Yes we may have been beaten but if we had the right attitude a 30-60 point loss would have been the outcome if Darwin and Skilled the previous week took a toll. Hats off to Dunn, Frawley & Tommy Mac down back they were among our best players today and Sylvia was our best mid. I thought defeats like this would be a thing of the past but that was every bit as bad as Round 2 vs the Bombers. A lot of soul searching this week and boy do we need Garland and Terlich to come back in. A lot of our boys Howe, Trengove, Grimes & Davey need to get back to some decent footy and time for Taggert to be given a run through the middle, we need all the big bodies we can get in there. Jones & Viney were down today but will give them the benefit of the doubt, We really need to make a statement next week against GWS from the first bounce if we turn up with no will to run & spread and play self preservation footy we will be looking at a 5 to 6 goal loss.

Demonland Player of the Year - round 18
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6.Dunn - can't believe on another thread people are calling for his head, beat Thomas hands down 5.Frawley- is almost back to AA form, we need to get things right in the FD as we can't afford to lose him 4.Sylvia - had a dip and our best mid for mine 3.M.Jones - had a crack and got his hands to it 2.TMac- got a lot of it as did most of our defenders and provided some rebound 1.Gawn - four quarter effort and despite being beaten by Goldstein, big Maxy is improving every week -
Out: Frawley/Pederson, Davey, Kent Ins: Terlich, Garland, Taggert

The Tom Boyd Cup, Saturday 3rd August 2013
Pennant St Dee replied to Philthy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree we need mids mids & mids If we manage to get a PP and it is Pick 1 it goes on the table to the highest bidder and put it out there that the chance at Boyd will not come cheap Crows Sloan & Henderson/Mckay Blues - will need a third party involved because they will not give up Murphy or Gibbs Lions - Rockliff & Hanley Dockers - Barlow & Michie Saints - Steven & Armytage Dogs - I don't think they will give up Griffen but that is where I would start asking along with Libba absolute clearance machine Port - Wines & Gray If clubs want Boyd that bad one of those clubs will give us something good -
I'd look at getting Viv Michie from Freo, good young mid who is playing really well at WAFL level but just can't break into their strong midfield. He Adams from GWS, a gun mid (Sloan if we could) and another bid bodied mid would see us starting to head in the right direction added to what we have already

I'm sorry but Watts' debut against the Pies in that QB game is nothing close to what occurred to Jimmy T last week. For starters Watts had not played senior football like Toumpas for the previous two seasons, Watts had barely played much TAC cup in the previous season. Watts was very much a boy against men initiation which was a stupid publicity stunt to draw a crowd to our big showcase game for the year. Jimmy T had been steadily improving as he spent more time in the seniors and didn't look out of place against the Cats. Without being in the inner sanctum I don't know what was wrong with him last week, I am not going to judge him on one game. There could be a number of factors for his poor game. Lets not panic

Great post and something we need to adhere to from here on in

This is a kid who I see some potential in currently playing colts at East Perth in the WAFL. Was not selected in state U/18's and is not a flashy player but just does the easy thing. I have seen him on about 7 or 8 occasions this season and have only seen him have one bad game, the kid doesn't scream star quality but just has something about him I like. He is very clean with his hands and a good decision maker, who seems to have time and space when he gets the ball. He is currently being played as an outside midfielder and would like to see him used more in an inside role.Shanahan's good decision making may be the reason behind the outside role, but the kid is a good size around the 6ft to 6ft 1inch in the old. I have only seen him play once as an inside mid, which was a change made during the first quarter due to an injury to a team mate. Showed ability in being able to find his own footy and used his bigger body to hold off opponents and dispose of the ball well. When in close he showed fast and clean hands which was what stood out most for me. Shanahan is not being talked about much and he may slip under the radar and IMO could be worth a late pick or at worst a rookie selection

Melbourne has moved on from Roos
Pennant St Dee replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Where from Sydney, where he lives, Adelaide where your avatar says you live or another port of departure, although I seriously doubt your post, Roos is no idiot so lets fly into Perth in full view of all and sundry! Meth Coast play the Dogs in Melbourne this week and that is where any meeting would have happened -
Melbourne has moved on from Roos
Pennant St Dee replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Worsfold certainly needs to earn a decent income, with divorce proceedings ahead and a fairly heavy financial hit with a failed business venture. He will always be sort after in WA and as a I said last week the decision as to who coaches Meth Coast next year rests solely with Woosha! -
Old Dee in 1986 I was 14 and thought I would never see the Dees playing finals and halfway through 87 I saw nothing to change my youthful view. That is one of the other things which gives me faith, hope and probably dilusion.
-
The post Old Dee was very much tongue in cheek, especially re Daisy, I have heard Hogan is happy with certain aspects but obvioulsy there are others which are of concern and very much see what happens in the next two years. I don't think I'm dreaming about Frawley he and Sylvia would very much be a wait and see who the new coach & FD are IMO. One day Old Dee One day, thats what keeps me going
-
There is always the need for security Old Dee, we have the coin and Frawley knows he is just one serious injury away from an end to his career. It works both ways
-
Good news, just need Watts and Sylvia to re-sign, Frawley and Hogan to extend and Daisy wouldn't be a bad signature either along with soem decent young Vic mids wishing to return to Victoria from interstate
-
Congratulations Stuie, hope all is well with the new arrival!

No thanks finally starting to see something in him, since Neeld left. a keep IMO

Melbourne has moved on from Roos
Pennant St Dee replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
More posts to come soon enough I expect from Deelanders analysing and provding interpretation on what Roos says, his actions (eg ear pulling), does or doesn't answer on OTC during tonights episode. No hope of this thread finishing up within 2 months unless the definitive no comes soon -
FMD is that the best you can come up with He is slow and can only kick a short distance. Hardly captain or a number 2 draft pick= confirmation of lack of football knowledge. Do yourself and the rest of us a favour either give yourself or request the administrators give you a holiday, your just embarrassing yourself with every post. But then again in your eyes myself and other Deelanders are wrong and are just happy to except mediocrity.
-
Typical WYL say we accept mediocrity but don't answer the question posed to you regard Trengove, I'll answer it for you as it's obvious "Really I don't know my lack of football knowledge is obvious and I can't analytically answer questions anyone puts to me once they put me on the spot with facts" Don't bother answering WYL I am over you whining, it's people with short vision and quick fixes that have us in this mess!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE
Pennant St Dee replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very much agree on this he is a very good player and highly rated at Freo, very hard midfield to break into. Jack Stephen and Armitage are looking like good mids now after playing in the shadows of Hayes, Del Santo, Goddard, Gram & Montagna. IMO for where we are at we would be better off targeting the likes of Michie, Taylor Adams and an older free agent along with drafting two young mids. Would be a better option than trading away picks for someone who will more than likely not reach his 2009/10 form again -
I think like Sheedy, Choco has a soft spot for some of the indigenous boys who play with flair, Burgoyne x 2, Wanganeen, Danyle Pearce, Che Cockatoo-Collins & Byron Pickett who brought other attributes to the table as well

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE
Pennant St Dee replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Melbourne Demons
Think is best is past him and would not trade anything in the first two rounds for him. Don't get me wrong he is a good ordinary player who had a couple of really good years but there are plenty of them out there who fail to reach those standards again, therefore IMO they are not worth trading decent picks away for -
What's the legitimate question, Wyl, what does Darren Glass do to inspire his players, he is as quite as a mouse but he generally beats his opponent and never gets towelled up, same as I pointed out to you last year about Trenners. Nick Maxwell hardly a gifted talent but like Trengove he does all the 1%ers required and you know what football is actually a very easy game made difficult by players and coaches. Trenners is fairly level headed, our best tackler and you have no idea what he does at the club day to day and neither do I. Don't put yourself on some pedestal that you have higher expectations than the rest of us because you want a flag, FFS crawl before you run, they take time and if you want to be serious hard yards are needed, tough times and don't give me any of this we've been carp for the last 7 years. News flash we started again last season and have sorted out the spine for a decent few years to come. Yes I want a flag, but they are hard to win, I would like to be a contender for a decent stretch, our list is actually not that bad a few tweaks and the right decisions will sort us out in the same manner the Tigers have turned things around since 2010. Trenners will never be a Judd, Ablett type but he will continue to be a solid contributor on our list for a long long time
