To be fair, while I don't disagree with the above statement, they would play majority of their game time in the midfield when they're in the VFL hence the high possession numbers. When they're called up to Melbourne side they're assigned specific roles, generally defensive forward roles and therefore don't get those numbers that people are expecting to translate from their VFL form.
