  1. I hope they DO go to other clubs, and continue true to form! One of those, like Sylvia IMO who would like to play AFL byt don't want to enough to put in the hard work and make the necessary sacrifices
  2. Just a question - why "combine"?? I would hazard a guess that some US sport has a "draft camp" called a "combine" and DumbItriou adopted it as he seems to love the hype and names related to US sport more than AFL. (When 'divisions' were once mooted after all he wanted to call them 'conferences' to mimic NBL or NFL, when to word has no connection with AFL at all.)
  3. Interesting observation re their respective career stages and playing positions. Makes one think hard about him >>> O'Brien.
  4. Sad news firstly for his family but for the whole MFC family and the footy world in general We have had a terrible record of premature death amongst our legends recently - Jimma, Sean and now Robbie RIP
  5. Agree 100 percent - the media conference are obviously not run by professionals. Professional media would always require the questioner to have a microphone. Another bit of sloppy work by AFL.
  6. Surely you are not suggesting that some aspect of the AFL lacks a degree of transparency, are you? You obviously don't know that they have (something along the lines of) integrity commissioners :-)))))
  7. All that developing good recruits will end up meaning is more pickings for the top clubs: they will depend less and less on developing their own talent, though no doubt they will do so, but rather let the lowly clubs take the inevitable risk that drafting is and get such talent that does come on ready for free agency.
  8. .....but he has an adoring father figure as President to protect him!
  9. Water under the bridge - drafting is a very inexact craft / science, but we didn't get much that time I have to agree. Do remember that guys like Chris Grant and Jacques Merde were overlooked multiple times - as I recall picked in 70s, 80s or maybe 90s - by all clubs and both headed the Brownlow voting at the end of the night.
  10. Not a very interesting contest - only glad to see that premierships cannot (necessarily) be bought !
  11. It hurts that all of theirs have come since our penultimate one. Basically all through my adult years. Still, my schooldays were a great time to be a Demon fan. Finals every year from prep to year 11.
  12. I can't recall, but how were they in their first season back? Nathan Brown took quite a while too IIRC.
  13. For once I am rather ambivalent about this one. I have until this year had a great respect for the Swans, but the blatant misuse of the spirit of the COLA in buying Tippett then Franklin has me saying enough is enough. However ... the Hawks?? If they do beat the Swans, I hope Roughead has a big day out and Franklin an absolute stinker.
  14. But it would look great in the Members' Dining Room.
  15. So you guys (and others) know a lot more than Roos then ??
  16. Ah...such a happy place for someone prone to depression to want to move to.
  17. The two are not mutually exclusive !
  18. I think that your first sentence may he pivotal - when he was diagnosed may well be a year or two after he actually suffered the foot problem, so the explanation for his drop in form could well be an undiagnosed foot problem.I hope that all here wish him well and hope that his foot has recovered fully allowing him to return to his previous best. Remains to be seen of course.
  19. I haven't ever seen him, but I think one would have to say that this very low risk experiment has not been a roaring success. So be it - nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  20. Especially those who have been around a while - those first five will surely move on (those that haven't already).
  21. Unlike our midfield which has been pretty viscous, not vicious :-(
  22. He played the role asked of him quite adequately when Garland was injured - unfortunately for Alexis he was injured in "the Viney incident" by friendly fire, just as Garlo came back and was not needed again. Well done.
  23. Port will forever rue their poor kicking for goal in the first, which was what cost them a GF berth. Of course the umpiring 50/50s all went Hawthorn's way, especially a run of HTBs in I think Q2 and of course that final one as they pressed into attack. Still, great game. If only our guys could learn a bit about intensity, running and pressure.
  24. His path has been very disappointing, and certainly influenced by his injury woes. Good luck to him in his quest for a trade - I am not sure if we would get much though.
