  1. Wow. What an inspiring young man. Brought a tear to my one eye. Imagine another Ollie. But I guess it is just imagine unless somehow a higher pick is conjured up like last year and the Weed. No idea from where though.
  2. Reading Sheahan's column yesterday, if they do last that long, there were a couple of likely types who could be still around. (Can't find the thread or post but it is here somewhere).
  3. In fairness (and I actually feel quite ill saying this of the drug cheats) that ain't their problem - it is ours Exactly Can someone name one good deal we have had with these bastards, and don't say Heffernan or Moorcroft ? I am sure if you could trawl your way through the "Welcome to MFC" thread from last year you could find many who thought just that. It was I am sure a "calculated risk" by our recruiting team, who must have at least considered the possibility.
  4. Maybe the Hawks think they can cure the lame? PaulRB - to paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld, is that a known unknown or an unknown unknown, or even maybe an unknown known?
  5. Maybe it is a bit of both. Some of the attraction is being able to play prime time games at prime venues, and the AFL perpetuate this inequality year after year. The inequality is both a club's ability to attract talent, and the resulting inequality in income. The cycle continues unabated.
  6. We did get Jesse, mr pickett. The Doggies got Boyd. The Dogs won without being a 'destination club'. We can too.
  7. ^ IMHO Sylvia had far more talent than Ty. Lyon, like a succession of coaches at MFC, couldn't get him to unleash it. Clarkson may get more of whatever Ty may have hidden away there than the others got out of Col.
  8. Does anyone know the logistics / contractural / salary cap implications would be of delisting him as a player, and retaining him in some sort of off field "mentoring" / assistant role, should of course he be interested in such an arrangement? I understand that despite not being able to give much on the field due to his failing body he is well respected at the club especially as a leader / guide for the younger guys.
  9. *physical It will be interesting to see just how all these banned players will adapt to coming back with the ignominy of a drug conviction and a year out of the game. I suspect that it will effect them all differently: something to prove for some, maybe a chip on the shoulder for others. No way of telling I guess as of now. The story will unfold. Let's hope that Jake is one of the positive stories: at least moving on from the club that put him through it gives him a bit of a fresh start.
  10. Unfortunately injury has prevented us from seeing just what JKH has to offer. He showed quite a bit early on. I could see him being a top 30 player though IMO he would struggle to break into the 22 on a regular basis.
  11. Diacos didn't test - sore knee. Are The Eddie's playing funny buggers, hiding him? Maybe it is just my cynicism ?
  12. Errrr because he used to wear tracky pants at training and IIRC at warm up I am sure Donald Trump would be very keen to push the button as a first act in his Presidency.
  13. He owes a lot and I hope he delivers quickly and consistently.
  14. Well done A true honest dryer who gave his all Had all done the same we would have done far better
  15. Weideman is a long way from being physically ready (if ever) to do forward / ruck back up duties. I would be shocked if he was thrown into the ruck, at least at AFL, next year. Later on........maybe?
  16. In my mind the biggest issue was the breaking of the Camelot fairytale by not holding on to a third generation player who turned out to be the best of the three. That said they haven't done too badly on the field.
  17. except that jokes are supposedly funny DS. We actually need to consistently beat the clubs below us, and at least some above for us to progress.
  18. Thanks Lynden for some very good games in our darkest years. Sorry that our new game style doesn't fit your style, but you did your best in trying times. Good luck whatever you do and keep your boy in the red and blue.
  19. Sensible re-signing a player already on our list - yes a 'serviceable' player, yet also a reliable one who does what is asked of him. Doesn't that make you happy? Sure he ain't Boyd or Patton, but he also isn't a top pick, which incidentally we don't have this year.. I am sure the recruiters would be looking out for such, but they can't create picks out of thin air. IMO he is certainly >>> those two. Sure probably not best 22 when all are available but a very dependable back up.
  20. Yes. Our new run and play on style has purpose and an aim, not frenetic running like a headless chook then bombing it blindly nowhere. See above. Hunt runs with purpose; H aimless and hopes for the best.
  21. That was without doubt the best debut by a million miles that I have ever seen live. Breathtaking vision and handball skills. When he grows up he could become one of the best of all time.
  22. And of course Choke, this becomes self perpetuating. High TV ratings come from Friday and Saturday nights, then Saturday arvo and no guess who gets the most of these?
  23. Why just a two horse race? Do you actually know that our guys aren't at least talking with him? Or other clubs?
  24. Maybe he also went to a Freo interview and fell asleep listening to Ross? I (now) trust our recruiters to do due diligence and pick players who are committed to the cause.
