As a MFC fan I am naturally a pessimist: Max had a dream year but were he to miss even a few games Watts, Weideman, Hogan could not be expected to carry the load. That leaves Spencer, if he doesn't ask for a trade, or Pedersen assuming he stays on the list. I reckon if Spencer stays he should be given a lot more forward time at Casey to see if he could work on the forward role: otherwise maybe groom Hulett. Maybe these two experiments / developments should actually be concurrent.

I think I will trust our (current) recruiting team to do full due diligence as to why HH had a pretty poor season by his standards. If it happens to be some internal club issue, that they feel he will most likely overcome by changing clubs, then he looks just the type and age we need. It is just wrong, in the interests of player safety, that Stevie J can in effect head charge into an opponent's midriff and be rewarded with a goal. This needs to be discouraged, not encouraged. Someone WILL break their neck one day. Only then will the usual AFL knee jerk response come into effect.

As AF said earlier in this thread - who knows what the award did to Jesse's mind? He was either carrying a chronic injury all year, or a swollen head. I am just really happy that we have blooded a handful of youngsters who could all turn out to be very good long term players.
