  1. So,anyone have a view of which of the following, some of whom we hear a lot about, some very little will play the most games in 2015? Newton, Petracca, Riley, JKH, Brayshaw, ANB, Michie, Salem or Toumpas? From a popularity contest on training reports would seem Toumpas and then perhaps Petracca will clearly lead, but I'm thinking Michie and Newton might be the main two from this group - and if I could choose I'd hope Salem and Toumpas were the two.
  2. Very excited after my first view of him at training, wow I reckon we have a serious gun on ours hands that we have wanted for so long. Fantastic recruitment in 2015 Demons, headlined by this guy.
  3. Go watch him train. He's involved, in amongst it, up and about, loving the drills, having a go......already so much more than Sylvia ever did at training. Petracca will be nothing like Col.
  4. Watched Petracca in the running drill and then kicking, marking as they started ball skills. He ran pretty well, clearly not yet in the shape of some of the boys but didn't drop out real early like Jamar, Garland and King. Frost also out pretty early. Petracca seems to have magnificent hands, the ball just sticks, no fumbles. He attacks the ball hard also. He would be a very handy forward pocket; reckon we might see him play 10+ games deep forward this year and be used as a marking target. Other things I noticed: as some have said before, Frost is huge. Viney seems in ripping shape. Gawn and Harmes were doing a lot of ruck tap to rover vs Stafford and Miller. Plus every couple they would have to sprint to the goal square after a centre tap. Clearly a lot of repeat effort running. Gawn looking really good. Mackenzie running fast laps, Dawsey also. Watts, Bail, Stretch, Spencer doing very little.
  5. A win to Grimesy in the repeat running drill. Matt Jones, Viney, Toumpas and I think ANB also high up.
  6. Another way to look at it, who definitely won't be in the Rd1 team? Trengove obviously. Hunt. The rookies. Anyone else definitely not in? Makes some intense competition for spots.
  7. I've known Neita for a while and he is red and blue to the core. Recently left his employer to this is a bit of a career change. Good luck to him. Genuine lovely bloke with pretty good footy instincts.
  8. Might sound a bit simple but all the recent "expert" press is suggesting a clear top 3 is most peoples eyes. If truly the case then how bloody fantastic that we get two of them, and avoid the #1 pick mantle for our first pick. I will be very happy with any of the two mentioned, then get them into our newly improved "good development" environment. Reality now is that these two young men will have a more experienced development coach in McCartney, plus a Goodwin than Scully and Trengove had in a senior coach with Bailey. We are miles in front and haven't even mentioned Roos. I literally can't wait to see Brayshaw band Petracce/McCartin train the house down, get a heap of press, hype and play well pre season.....and not get picked rd1 cause we've got better options!!
  9. A stunning achievement by WSW. While I still live for the Demons as my number 1 love soccer has taken a foothold in our house also. I've been to two World Cups and cannot imagine a better experience in sport as a fan than Timmy Cahill scoring in Kaiserslauten in 2006. Yes I struggle to imagine the Dees winning a flag could be better than the emotion at the end of that game 8 years ago. We truly do live in the worlds sporting capital and I love it. Go Victory, Go Demons ... fail soon Western Sydney and stay down GWS..
  10. So, if we had picks 2 & 3 last year, at this same stage who would we have wanted? Billings and Scharenberg perhaps? Heavily influenced by media hype I'd suggest. But we would have all made a good case for Kelly also, I'd suggest very few would have suggested Bontempelli in the top 3. Here we are one year on and if the draft was done again today I'd suggest Bontempelli may well have stormed into the top 3. My point, ignore the media hype, and have faith we now have quality people in charge of drafting. I've no idea in 12-24 months time who is likely to be the then rated 2/3 from 2014 draft, by I desperately hope we got them both.....be it Patracca, Brayshaw, Lever, Durdin, Laverde, Mccartin, Wright or someone else.

  12. Actually I'm pretty sure every single year pick 23 goes on an unproven player. Very happy we used this pick on someone we had seen in 15+ AFL games, not 15+ SANFL games.I read on here two days ago someone saying we should use pick 2/3 on guns mids and 23 on the best young tall.....seems we did exactly that. Nice work Dees. Welcome Frosty.
  13. Do elaborate? Is it him scoring 120+ supercoach every week....getting 32 touches and kicking 3 goals.....in black and white.....that bugs me also. Would feel much better if he did it in red and blue though!
  14. I love the way Trengove has been loyal since day 1, the opposite of T$. But......I love winning games of footy more. Go get Beams Demons, he is clearly finished at the Maggies, take advantage of what the Lions wouldn't do. Get it done. Get Brayshaw, Pies can have Petracca at 3. Start on ball next years with Beams, Tyson and jones in the guts. bang!
  15. No they won't, it will get traded to Essendon for Ryder.
  16. I'm convinced the 18 team competition has split the depth of coaches just as much as it has players. At any one time I don't believe there is more than 6-8 Premiership capable coaches in the AFL, to be honest I think this flows through virtually every elite sporting competition. Having on of those capable in charge of your club is crucial for player retention, attraction, the confidence it gives the broader club etc. Roos is clearly a Premiership capable coach, it's proven. The capable coach then needs a capable playing list, and in this aspect we are miles and miles off. I don't believe Buckley, Hardwick, mcCartney or B Scott are premiership capable. They may be, but I don't see it. They all do, or have had a more capable player group than Roos has though. My nervousness is all about whether Goodwin is premiership capable, and too be honest I've no idea. Yes I'd rather Clarkson, who wouldn't......but to get a new coach like Goodwin I am comforted by the fact his learning environment prior to taking over couldn't be any smoother or better, it's well thought, well planned and will ensure capable players understand it. I'd love Roos for longer, but given the situation and our deplorable 40+ years I'm very relieved we've got him for a mini generation. I expect big things in 2015, and think we will see the fruition of that over the next two weeks at the trade table and draft. Premiership capable coaches don't sit idle and wait for it to happen for them (as the Bulldogs have done for ten years in finding a forward), they crack in and get it done. Having coached several state level premierships I do truly believe defence wins flags, but only if you have the attacking quality players to make the most of it.......and we don't, yet. Go Demons.
  17. I met Simon, actually spent a fair part of a day chatting with him at the Clipsal 500 way back in 2000. Lovely bloke, feet on the ground, smart, easy to talk to, was a sensational player. My brief experience says he is worthy of being considered, if Roos and Co think he is better than that then fantastic. Welcome to Demonland Simon. You will become our first premiership coach in 50+ years.
  18. How about pick 3 to GWS for frost and pick 4?
  19. Finally it's starting to show that players like Guthrie and Horlin Smith aren't actually any good. As bartel, Johnson, mackie and co ease down the rest look less than stars........fantastic. Go Roos.
  20. Nice bloke. His you fella does Auskick with mine, not sure on the future father son but he does have a better head of hair!
  21. Imagine needing a coach who was good taking a team into finals! I'd still take Lyon anyday, love how Freo play, don't care if they don't win a flag, they have completely changed the perception of their club for a generation at least.....anywhere, anytime. And I love how he has treated Sylvia, a quick example of the MASSIVE difference between a gun senior coach and a rookies like we've had.
  22. Off to the Pies according to 3aw. So maybe a straight trade for Lumumba. Then we get an off field issue and a bloke who can play 22 games off half back as a replacement for an off field great bloke who has massive on field issues, I.e. Getting on the field without breaking down. Of course I still dream of Mitch playing next to hogan and dominating for 3-4 years but recent history suggests that won't happen.
  23. Once again 3aw says 5 years at $500k at Geelong. Waiting for them to finish finals, hopefully done by the weekend then!
  24. Trade him to Freo if he wants to return and WA is appealing for his mindset. He'd be awesome for them. In return we could get one of their decent tough young players like Neale, or Spurr and maybe a Silvangi. We could get Sylivia back so Casey have a mature mid! Love to see him fit and healthy in a Dees jumper again, but equally understand Roosy thinking time to move on and develop another tall forward line.
  25. Very pleased with the glimpses Salem has shown, particularly his willingness for the contest. Can't wait to see him played more in his position in the next two years, off a wing or half back as a start, then in the guts. Imagine his kicking skills off half back, malceski like. For those unsure because of his low stats, which players in our team playing solely forward deep have averaged more touches per minute of game time? Not sure I could name any. Can't recall any of Bail, Riley, JKH, Tapscott, Dawes getting many more when deep.
