We have momentum, the single greatest asset of any sporting team. Saturday night Port stood no chance because of it, the GC scrappy win coupled with the Hawks effort means we have it in spades. port had it in 2014, ours seems more sustainable, time will tell. Be great to make it, bugger off North.

Max has become an icon, cult hero. My young boy made yesterday's Herald Sun picture running with Max with the beard on from an Auskick setup this week. 20 young bearded kids in Demons #11, sensational for the kids. Max was wonderful with them, he has 20 new fantastic fans, even the couple who weren't Dee's fans, plus parents!

Pretty simple I reckon, we want to win next week. IN HOGAN OUT WEED Pederson was better than Weed, and as good as the kid looked I'd prefer Hogan vs Port, likewise Pederson. No other change unless injury. cheers to Omac for starting to look very good.

Sam MaClure- "Hibberd to Melbourne, 4 year deal"
1964nowMORE replied to Rod Grinter Riot Squad's topic in Melbourne Demons
Supercoach lock for 4 years now, usually means a lot of possessions and keeps hitting a target by foot! -
I thought it might hurt less the morning after, not so. The utter frustration is subsiding though. This was like a classic game of soccer, with one side absolutely dominating possession, tackles, hard balls and yet still being beaten on the break, a quick long ball in hope that the opposition score from. Fark. They did it time and again. Outside of the obvious turnovers by foot, started by Wagners in the first quarter, we paid a very very big price for Watts, Hogan, Stretch, Viney and more being unable to kick reasonably simple goals from 35m out in front. Full credit to the players who simply went again and again. Gee I'd have liked Salem instead of Wagner or Omac in defence yesterday, just for his kicking alone. We are clearly making progress, slower than I'd like, but no doubt on a true foundation of talent, not aging B and C grade players. The saddest thing about yesterday is it had the potential to be the difining win for this young group, something they look back on and refer to for years to come about how they achieved it. It bloody hurts, it would have been worth 4 points PLUS a truckload of self belief, even for us fans. bugger......

We should be much further in front. But they don't even look like scoring.

Yes he made a few blues, but a great five minutes from grimes with some hardball gets and handballs and the big spoil in their goal square. Give him a break.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 13
1964nowMORE replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have a look at the Sydney weather bom, hours of heavy rain ahead. It's very wet at the ground but the surface is nice. omac was slotting goals with ease earlier so not impossible to kick straight. swans have several no names playing, so with the right mindset we are a chance. -
Changed my mind from last night after today's game. I'd almost forgotten how bad our back half kicking was yesterday with Salem or Bernie down there.....Bugg kicking in, hmmmm. OMac out for White, do is a wonderful and long kick. We need to cut through defences, the most important kicks are the first penetrating pass to about 60 out from opposite defence, and the last pass inside 50. Salem is ideal for the first, Watts, Petracca for the second. out: Harmes and Omac in: Kennedy and White stiff, Grimes, would really like to see him with some game time as a forward role ala Harmes, pushing onto the wing. I still believe Grimes has a role to play for us.
-
In: Kennedy (assumes a reasonable game for casey) out: Harmes

Worst effort of the year. We missed Oliver. Badly. Sad that he is so young and means so much. Comes in for Newton for mine. another tall, Dawes or Pedo would have been handy. Our Harmes for me, needs a rest. Omac is miles off, so either Dunn or Frost come in. also feel Grimes has earnt a game, if we really reward Casey form he should come in. Probably for Kennedy.

Some insightful reviews on here. I agree Dogs were too good for us. Once again we got opened up out the back when we failed to impact any of the 3-4 short kicks that got them to the middle, quickly. From there we were outmanned. in terms of contested ball contribution and run I thought we got absolutely nothing from Hunt, Wagner, Harmes and Garland, all of whom were excellent vs Gold Coast. Outside garland they are all young and will do this all year i suspect, but the more they play together the better. we will learn more from this game than any other.
-
This might be the tallest Casey side ever. Hulett, Dawes, Frost, Weidemann, Spencer, Hutchins, Dunn, O Mac, Keilty. Sure this won't work?
-
Hunt must stay in. Etihad is a fast track, Saints are very quick with their many young small forwards. Hunt is lightning, we will need his speed. Hard to tell perhaps last night but his speed, such as the 3rd man up spoil in Q3, is integral to our back half. Same as Lumumba. he and Wagner look very good for the future. Much more composed than Grimes and Garland who they replaced. oliver in for Brayshaw on form, ditto Petracca for Frost.
-
Viney is already in LLoyds team of the year....he absolutely stays now. Gawn is getting very close.
-
We rock. Hard and tough, never give in, doesn't feel like us anymore....loving the new demons. we can make the eight
-
Enjoy this demon fans. Range goooonnnneeeeee, Watts gooooooaaaaaallllll
-
Hulett kicks his 3rd, Scorps trail by 20.

Seems regardless of who took who both Parish and Oliver will go on to have very good careers for their clubs, play 200+ games and win some things, such as B&Fs. parish looked good on Saturday, almost as good as Oliver looked the week before. Good luck to both, thankfully we got one of them, unlike every other comparison where we got the dud.
-
Imagine if this was our team in terms of depth and quality for 10-12 VFL rounds.....we would finish top 2 surely. Happy to see Trengove and Petracca kicking it to the Weid.

I'm surprised at some of the views that Goodwin is the man now. We have improved from the day Roos walked in the door, every single thing about the team is better. What has been frustrating is we haven't experienced a linear improvement, rather two steps forward, one step back over 24 months. This past month has been two steps forward by itself, for everyone's belief....players, coaches, staff, media, fans and opponents. what I am surprised about is how we have become, seemingly over preseason a ferocious, tough, no excuses footy team. There simply aren't any soft blokes playing anymore, and more importantly we have a large group of youth, led by Viney who rate the rough stuff, and I'm certain compete in this at training, games and over a game of ping pong. I can't imagine a Ben Kenneddy or Clayton Oliver being able to hold game time if Viney, Jones and co thought they shirked the odd contest.no these blokes go full bore, and we are starting to add skills to this. Best of all, a foundation build on hardness at the ball is sustainable long term, whether your game plan is likes the Swans, Cats or Hawks. The Dee's are coming people, look out.....

Saturday Talking Point: The NAB Challenge
1964nowMORE replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
GWS looked very very impressive, just liked you'd expect of a team choc full of talent now 4-5 years into the afl routine. Their young gun draft picks from last year will struggle for game time, that gives you insight to how far they have come. The midfield is scary good, Ward sublime and tough, but Shiel looks deadly. I believe they will play finals this year, and go past quite a few teams, including the Bulldogs, Pies and Kangas. Round 1 might just be an 8 point game early in the season. Should be a ripper. Some signs of a slowdown from Sydney, can't see them dropping too far, but not expecting top 4. Either way we beat Essendon round 2. -
Keen to go again Deevoted. Fetters Flyers. Thanks for sorting it.
-
Not all that fussed. Seems a tougher draw than last year, but didn't the Hawks play the top 7 early rounds recently and win 6? We simply need to win, anywhere, anytime. Bring it on.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
1964nowMORE replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
So the Footy Dept might be prepared to bet one of our 44 list spots on a guys with 5yrs development, about to enter his prime in footy, clearly a talented junior and has played some good footy in seniors. He fits our age profile. Expect a lot of bombers to play improved footy once they get out and the saga ends. Would have been an appalling place to develop as a youngster, much like Melbourne in 2010-2013. I'm know more or less excited by him than I was Harmes, Hunt, Bail, M Jones, Pederson or Lumumba when they came onto our list. A few have added real value, a few stink, but if we get him for pick 40 that's fine.
