MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
hells bells replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've heard the same rumour. I think there's probably some truth in it. -
They have 5 or 6 regulars. KB is one I've seen a couple of times Aaron Davey also a regular and Chris Johnson. I've seen King on it a few times and every time he's been hopeless. Dipper is Dipper, you know what you're going to get.
-
What were the final changes for Brisbane? Was it 7 changes all up?
-
Dipper and Jake King are average. He rest of them are pretty entertaining.
-
I'm a rough chance to get to the game tomorrow night. If I do I'll send updates through.

Melbourne to ditch Alice Springs game from next year?
hells bells replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
It will be interesting to see whether the club continues with the NT deal into the future. I'm not sure if we are committed for next year. At some time the financial reward will have to be weighed up against the impact on our chances of playing finals and/or top 4. IMO it will impact our chances this year. Games at the MCG against Port and Freo based on current form you would be relatively confident of victory. We may still win them, but the likelihood is less. Not to mention the impact on the following weeks performance. If we are serious about playing and winning finals it you'd think the NT solution may need a rethink. -
Clayton Oliver signs new 2 year deal.

Wouldn't mind seeing him play forward for parts of some games. Particularly towards the end of the year as he gets tired. He is a beautiful set shot and is a strong mark. -
Pates, read back a couple of pages, there was mail from a couple of posters that he has put his hand up. I did note that Max Gawn on Marngrook mentioned that Jack is getting back into the swing and had bruises in places he hasn't had for a long time. There was nothing sinister in what he said, I got the impression Jack was getting used to being battered around again. I'm most disappointed, because I will miss any comeback game in the next month because we are interstate and I can't make QB this year. Pretty selfish of me really.

I think we need to win the next 2 and beat Collingwood on Queens Birthday to be any shot to winning 12. That would take us to 7 and 6 at the Bye. I can't see us getting close to Hawthorn or Sydney. The second half of the year is very tough. The Suns and Blues are the only that I'd be relatively confident of winning at this stage. Adelaide, Saints and Freo the next best chances. WC, Hawks, Cats, Port (in Adelaide) will be very tough. We have to improve another 5-10% to win 12 IMO.

Will Jack put his hand up to play this week?!? I'm really hopeful as I'll be at the game. Must be a decent chance.

Holding the ball / prior opportunity / incorrect disposal
hells bells replied to Bluey's Dad's topic in Melbourne Demons
The umpires would view it that it is not ducking as the players are not ducking their heads, rather dropping their body. They would argue that the player infringed was "going lower" at the ball. i don't agree with it, but that's what I think is happening. -

When the Bulldogs are averaging a positive 9 Free Kick differential, it can't be luck. It is a tactic and they are being coached. It's just that some players will be better at it than others. -
LT interested to know why you think that the scoreboard flattered us? I think we'd all admit the Dogs were the better side but they didn't kick 15 goals 24. They kicked accurately. They weren't at their best, we didn't play at our best either. There were at least 5 additional goals that we should have kicked barring dodgy kicking or brain fades or little fumble. The dogs equally fluffed a number of chances. I think 5 goals was a pretty fair result.

Nutbean, I'd be extremely surprised if it wasn't coached. The coach is there to get the results and if by doing it, it advantages the team then the coach will be instructing it no doubt. As mentioned by others North do it, Geelong do it and the Hawks do it. If you watch the technique closely, the action is a drop to one side, knee and shoulder and then raise the arm on the dropped side causing the tackling arm to slide up the arm to the neck. I have little doubt that they will have some sort of oil on their upper arms too, to make it more likely to slip. It may not be in he spirit but it's within the rules. It's incredibly frustrating but it's definitely a tactic. -
They said Richmond tonight on 3AW

Interesting to see how he'd be going in the Best and Fairest. Can't remember him having a bad game or an opponent kicking a bag on him. Obviously not getting the Press of Gawn or Viney but he has had a great year so far.
-
It was actually the 3rd Quarter. 5.04 to go. Centre clearance just before Watts kicked the goal.
-
Maybe around 20minutes. If have to go and watch the replay again, to see exactly. You'll know it when you see it. He is around/under 2-3 Bulldogs players and bursts out and forward.
-
played another good game and coming along nicely. Needs to be aware that the low, hard, bullet pass is not always the best option. His burst out of a crowded pack in the final quarter was incredible.
-
My feelings on the game similar to yours OD. Seemed like they got some 50:50 balls to bounce their way. I think it was really lost in the first 5-10 minutes of the 3rd Quarter. We were pushing hard but didn't get the reward for our effort. Watts dropped mark, Hogan missed 1 (maybe 2) in that period and I think there was another where we fluffed an opportunity from the goal square. The Dogs transitioned and scored easy goals. The margin could have been back to near level but was out over 30. Overal as others said the Dogs were better but not by a huge magnitude. To be honest while it didn't feel like we could win after quarter time, I always felt that if we could string a few goals together we would push them. We have improved hugely. Think about it this way, we didn't play that well and lost by 5 goals to a premiership chance.

I expect Jetta will get a week for his elbow. Bernie gets another holiday too. That's two.

It is purely mental, and come down to intent. I think we've turned the corner in this issue, but the proof is in the pudding

The Tigers just beat Sydney. Anyone is beatable on their day. I think we will give the dogs a good show and am hopeful and somewhat confident of victory tomorrow. But I'm nervous about next week against Brisbane.
